Yanpvuthung Kikon, who emphasized the pivotal role of innovation and scientific discoveries in shaping the future of humanity, highlighted the discovery of fire as a key turning point in human history, marking the beginning of mankind’s quest for knowledge and advancement.

He underscored that scientific discovery is an ongoing process, with current efforts in space exploration aiming to make human habitation on the Moon and Mars a reality. “The future belongs to science and those who make friends with science,” Kikon remarked, quoting India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Addressing the students and participants, Kikon encouraged them to be persistent and hardworking as they presented their innovative ideas at the fair. He reminded them of the great expectations society holds for them, noting that some would go on to become remarkable innovators.

Kikon’s message resonated with the theme of the event, which sought to foster a culture of innovation and scientific inquiry among the youth, as they stand on the brink of a future defined by technology and discovery.

The science fair provided a platform for budding scientists to showcase their talents, with the hope that many would contribute significantly to society through their persistence, creativity, and passion for science.

Speaking as the theme speaker at the State Level Science Fair, Kekuneil Ltu, Scientist B from the Directorate of Science and Technology, emphasized the need for innovation and the application of practical knowledge to address the unique challenges faced by Nagaland.

His address underscored the importance of science and technology in transforming society and improving lives, especially in the context of the state’s rich cultural and natural resources.

Ltu highlighted that while the latest innovations in education are being embraced, Nagaland still faces gaps in higher education. He also pointed out that much of the research conducted focuses only on the symptoms, rather than addressing the root causes of problems.

“We must focus on finding the origins of challenges and exploring their background. Only then can we produce meaningful outcomes,” he said. Ltu stressed that research should enhance life and society by addressing real-world problems.

Ltu further discussed the potential of artificial intelligence and the role of emerging technologies in driving sustainable development. Reflecting on the traditional knowledge systems of the Northeast, Ltu noted that Nagaland’s indigenous practices have been self-sustaining for generations. He encouraged the integration of traditional knowledge with scientific advancements, particularly in the areas of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are abundant in the region.

Ltu also touched upon the concept of “superfoods” that are gaining global attention, questioning why people in Nagaland often overlook the nutritional value of traditional foods that have been consumed for generations. He urged a return to local resources, particularly in agriculture and bio-resources, which are one of the state’s key strengths.

In a practical example of innovation, Ltu highlighted that much of people’s savings in Nagaland go into construction, which is considered a significant achievement. He stressed the importance of focusing on local strengths and adopting indigenous and cost-effective methods, rather than relying on conventional approaches from outside the region.

Concluding his address, Ltu called for an inventive mindset, urging the participants to move beyond conventional methods and embrace innovation.

The event provided a platform for students and participants to showcase their innovative ideas and take forward the spirit of enquiry and scientific temper to contribute to the development of the state.

Winners in the exhibition (Individual) were: 1st Takasashi GHS Thahekhu; 2nd Mobalongyang GHSS Tuensang; 3rd Alomka Bethany School, Zunheboto.

Exhibition (Group): 1st Limsowa & Aosenla from Mayangnokcha GHSS, Mokokchung; 2nd Seni Tep & H.
