World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4. The day was also observed by Animal Welfare Association (AWA), School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus under the aegis of Animal Care Unit, Nagaland University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the theme, \u201cThe world is their home too,\u201d Prof. Akali Sema, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NU:SAS emphasized the five freedoms of animal welfare: Freedom from hunger and thirst, Freedom from discomfort, Freedom from pain, injury, or disease, Freedom to express normal behavior, and Freedom from fear and distress. She said that animals are not just inhabitants of the planet but integral components of the ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also underscored the importance of maintaining ecological balance by ensuring a secure and protected environment for humans, animals, and plants to coexist harmoniously. During the event, a dog was vaccinated in the presence of the special guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program was chaired by the campus incharge of the association, Prof. Nizamuddin, who delivered the welcome address and a keynote speech on the genesis and significance of the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Kuvutoli Sumi, a student representative of the association. To mark the day, vaccination drive for dogs against rabies was carried out within Medziphema jurisdiction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Altogether 37 dogs were vaccinated which was carried out by Dr. R\u00fc\u00fcsalie Nakhro, executive sales cum technical incharge of Nagaland, Godrej Agrovet Ltd., Dr. Catherine, Assoc. Professor, department of LPM, and N. Alemba Imsong, Farm Supervisor, department of LPM. Dr. Nakhro also provided free medicines and treated 15 cases of livestock and dogs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
