The NCD has managed to accommodate a wide array of voices and perspectives, maintaining cohesion while respecting differences-a principle that continues to strengthen its foundation. This inclusive approach has transformed the NCD from a simple cultural entity into a potent organization actively fostering mutual understanding among various tribal and non-tribal groups in Dimapur. Given its vast membership base, encompassing representatives from Nagaland\u2019s tribes, Naga communities from Manipur, and minority indigenous groups, the NCD can arguably be described as one of the most representative CSOs in the state. Yet, the NCD\u2019s role need not be confined to cultural advocacy. The council\u2019s wide reach positions it as a potential catalyst for economic and social development in Dimapur. In recent years, the city has struggled with pressing socio-economic challenges, exacerbated by multiple taxation from numerous political groups, unions, and associations. These levies have destabilized the business environment, driving many traders to relocate to nearby towns in Assam, such as Lahorijan and Khatkhati, where conditions are more favorable. NCD has previously raised awareness about these issues, highlighting how these practices undermine Dimapur\u2019s commercial viability. Going forward, the council can leverage its influence to address such issues systematically, advocating for reforms to create a more secure and thriving economic environment.Though Dimapur\u2019s geographical size has reduced following the creation of Ch\u00fcmoukedima and Niuland districts, its strategic importance remains undiminished. It continues to serve as Nagaland\u2019s commercial capital and one of the Northeast\u2019s key cities. However, realizing Dimapur\u2019s full potential requires an urgent investment in infrastructure. The city\u2019s roads are narrow and poorly maintained, causing chronic traffic congestion. Multi-level parking, flyovers, and an efficient drainage system are necessary to ease the pressures of urban growth. Further, a modern shopping centre with parking facilities and effective garbage disposal mechanisms could enhance the city\u2019s attractiveness for residents and businesses alike. As NCD has completed 75 years, it is expected to play a pivotal role in shouldering the responsibility to shape Dimapur\u2019s future. Also as NCD comprises of people from the cosmopolitan city and most of who are knowledgeable and experienced in matters concerning urban development, it is imperative the council also mull over inclusion of experts to be members of its development panel in order to prepare required projects to be presented to the the government for the development of Dimapur city. This proactive approach would support Dimapur\u2019s revival as a commercial and social hub, restoring its status as one of the Northeast\u2019s top cities.
