A training program on leprosy for Medical Officers, Block ASHA Coordinators, ASHAs, and staff under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) was conducted at the Ayurveda Conference Hall, Dimapur on November 27, under the theme \u201cBeat Leprosy\u201d, the event aimed to enhance awareness and equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat leprosy in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
State Leprosy Officer, DHFW Nagaland Dr. Ruokuohelle Rutsa, served as the resource person for the program. In his presentation, he provided a detailed overview of leprosy, including its causes, incubation period, effects on the human body, and its transmission through the respiratory system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also emphasized the importance of the Focused Leprosy Campaign (FLC), a proactive initiative similar to the Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC). Unlike LCDC, FLC focuses on swift action within 15 days of identifying a \u201chot spot\u201d \u2013 areas where Grade-II disability among new leprosy cases is detected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grade-II disability indicates active community transmission and the likelihood of undetected cases. Dr. Rutsa highlighted that FLC operations involve health workers and ASHAs working together to identify and address these cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training program was divided into two sessions: morning Session: For Medical Officers and NLEP staff and afternoon session: For Block ASHA Coordinators and ASHAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants were trained on leprosy detection, treatment protocols, and strategies to implement campaigns effectively in their respective areas, particularly focusing on hard-to-reach communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program and was chaired by District Programme Officer for Non-Communicable Diseases, Dimapur Dr. Lhishelo Tsuhah, invocation by Bendanglemla, UDA, keynote address was by Dr. Benchilo Ngullie, DPO for Communicable Diseases-II and vote of thanks by Themrieso, NMS, and Shri Goipu Wotsa, Senior PMS, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants and organizers in advancing leprosy eradication efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
