{"id":463211,"date":"2024-12-27T13:19:23","date_gmt":"2024-12-27T07:49:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.com\/?p=463211"},"modified":"2024-12-27T13:19:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-27T07:49:25","slug":"ao-organizations-denounce-extortion-demand-harassment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2024\/12\/27\/ao-organizations-denounce-extortion-demand-harassment\/","title":{"rendered":"Ao organizations denounce extortion demand, harassment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several Ao organizations have denounced the extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh and harassment of Aolemba Longkumer on December 16 by cadres of the NSCN (Khango).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>OSTD: Ongpangkong Senso Telongjem Dimapur (OSTD) has strongly condemned the extortion demand of Rs. 50 lakhs and harassment inflicted on Aolemba Lkr and his family on December 16 by some members of the NSCN-K (Khango).<br>In a statement, OSTD president Imosong Imsong and secretary Nungshimeren Kichu described such actions as detrimental to the progress and prosperity of Naga society, likening them to an infected disease hindering societal advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The organization urged law enforcement authorities to take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. Emphasizing that Aolemba is a bonafide member of the Ongpangkong Senso and a respected individual, OSTD warned that any harm to him or his family would not be tolerated. OSTD stated its resolve to pursue the matter till the end and declared that it would not remain a \u201cmute spectator\u201d if further incidents occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>ALT: Strongly condemning the incident, the Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) said while the extortion demand upon a talented and self-made entrepreneur and innovator by itself was condemnable, the unimaginable amount demanded was shocking and utterly unacceptable.<br>ALT convener Imnaonen Pongen and co-convener Tiatemsu Longchar in a press release pointed out that Aolemba was a bona fide Ao Naga citizen, and a law-abiding man who made his mark through his God-given talents and sheer diligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>They said whatever wealth that he might have or not was through his hard work, asserting that no entities had a right to extort money from such innovative persons in the society. In fact, they stressed that every section of the society, including the more than two dozen Naga political groups, should encourage such entrepreneurs in our State.<br>Maintaining that Aolemba had received the President\u2019s Award and also the Governor\u2019s Award because of his innovations and works, the duo said he was a state treasure and a national asset. If a person like Aolemba was harassed in such a degrading manner by the NSCN (Khango), they mentioned that it would discourage future Naga innovators and entrepreneurs, putting Nagaland on a backslide in every field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>They extended solidarity to the CALT and endorsed the FIR lodged at Ch\u00fcmoukedima Police Station on December 17. They also urged the law enforcing agencies to take the matter with utmost seriousness, expedite the case and arrest the culprits at the earliest.<br>Further, the ALT leaders gave a clarion call to the Naga society, especially the youth, to introspect deeply on the prevailing scourge of extortion and intimation perpetuated by the different underground groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Predicting that the time was arriving when this unbearable harassment would blow over, which would not lead to a congenial and progressive society, they urged all responsible citizens and organisations to condemn such extortions and harassments meted out to progressive individuals in the society.<br>They said they would be closely monitoring the case till the end, while encouraging fellow citizen Aolemba Longkumer to remain bold and steadfast as the whole Ao youth community stood behind him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AKM: The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) also strongly condemned the abhorrent act of extortion and harassment of Aolemba.<br>In a statement, AKM vice-president Onenpong and assistant general secretary Bangjungkaba Imchen described the demand for Rs 50 lakh by cadres of the NSCN (K) Khango was not only an outright criminal act, but also a grave threat to the safety and dignity of law-abiding citizens.<br>They said it was deeply disturbing that such actions were perpetrated by those who claimed to uphold Naga identity and rights, yet stooped to such illegal and morally indefensible practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>They claimed that Longkumer, a President of India awardee and recipient of the Governor\u2019s Award for entrepreneurship, was a distinguished figure whose contributions to social development and life skills training had inspired countless Naga youths.<br>According to them, it was an outrage that an individual of his stature, who had tirelessly worked to uplift society, was being subjected to harassment by criminal elements.<br>They said such acts of intimidation undermined the hard work and integrity of honest citizens, shaking public confidence in the rule of law.<br>They termed the rise in extortion cases across Nagaland as alarming and called for addressing urgently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Pointing out that these criminal practices threatened economic stability and public safety, they warned that these could escalate into a broader crisis of law and order if left unchecked. They demanded that the state government take decisive action to root out these unlawful activities and hold the perpetrators accountable under the law.<br>They stressed that it was imperative that such organised criminal networks be dismantled to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Further, the duo called upon the government to fulfill its responsibility of safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of the people.<br>Cautioning that the failure to act decisively against these acts of extortion and intimidation would only embolden criminal groups, jeopardizing peace and stability of Nagaland, they demanded that the perpetrators of this heinous crime be arrested and prosecuted without delay.<br>They reiterated their firm commitment to stand against all forms of criminality that threatened the integrity of the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAYO: Strongly denouncing and condemning the incident, the DAYO in a press release maintained that Aolemba, a President of India awardee and also recipient of Governors Award for entrepreneurship, was not only an active member of the organisation, but also a role model for many upcoming Naga youth whose contribution towards social building and life skills development needed no introduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The organisation said it was shocked and overwhelmed that he had been served extortion notice by people who claimed to be the defender of Naga identity and Naga rights, which was totally unacceptable.<br>Condemning all acts of extortion as reprehensible and illegal, the DAYO declared that it would continue to do the same till this menace was neutralised by competent authorities.<br>The organisation said it stood united in denouncing such criminal practices that undermined economic stability and public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>According to the DAYO, the rise of extortion cases in Nagaland had made the citizens very insecure and agitated, cautioning that if it was not addressed at the earliest, explosion of law and order situation might become unavoidable.<br>It pointed out that extortion and intimidation of honest and hard working citizens were a direct challenge and violation to the values of integrity and justice in a civilised society.<br>The DAYO asserted that it would not tolerate any form of extortion towards the community members, urging the authorities concerned to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime were brought to justice and put behind bars at the earliest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>As the security and well-being of the citizens were the prerogative of the government, the organisation urged the state government to deal with such prevailing acts of goondaism and the mafia system with an iron hand.<br>FAYO: Strongly condemning the incident, the Foothill Ao Youth Organisation (FAYO) asserted that such unlawful practices were unacceptable to the young people when they were coming together and trying to contribute to the state\u2019s economy.<br>In a statement, FAYO president Achen Imchen and general secretary R Chuba appealed all right-thinking citizens to raise their voice against such evil acts and encroachment on one\u2019s personal liberty to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>They called upon the law enforcing agency to book the transgressors at the earliest and penalise them according to the law of the land.<br>ALTM: The Ao Lanur Telungjem Medziphema (ALTM) too strongly condemned the harassment and extortion demand to Aolemba.<br>ALTM president Chujang Jamir and general secretary Dr Chubatemsuozukum in a press release called upon law enforcement agencies to act decisively against those who engaged in such anti-social practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>They insisted that stringent penalties must be ensured to deter future offenders.<br>AYFD: Unequivocally condemning the outrageous act, the Ao Youth Forum Diphupar (AYFD) in a statement said the extortion demand was not only unjust and intolerable, but also a blatant attempt to undermine the rights and freedoms of the community and its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>As a youth organisation, AYFD declared that it would not stand idly while the NSCN-K (Khango) attempted to use coercion and intimidation to achieve its goals.<br>The youth body denounced the extortion demand, and said it stood firmly with the Ch\u00fcmoukedima Ao Youth Organization (CALT) in the latter\u2019s opposition to this unconscionable extortion demand.<br>AYFD demanded that the NSCN-K (Khango) immediately retracted its odious demand and cease its campaign of harassment and intimidation, while also calling upon the authorities concerned to
