State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio Sunday called the Congress party as number one enemy for NPF in Nagaland while speaking at a meeting of state NPF Municipal and Town Councils members, here at Hotel Saramati.\nRio also accused the Congress party of dividing the Nagas instead of uniting them during its 50 years rule at the centre and that the party had no moral authority to talk about eh Naga issue.
\n\u201cCongress has no moral authority to talk about Nagas issues which they have suppressed, destroyed and distanced themselves from the Naga political aspiration for the last two decades when in power,\u201d he said.
\nRio also urged the Nagas not to be a tool in the hands of the Congress which he said had clearly divided the Nagas and allowed them to kill each other for the sake of freedom.
\nHe asserted that the Nagas were matured and capable to handle the government and that they should not allow Delhi high command to rule over them. He further urged the NPF workers and the Nagas to be fearless in fighting against the Congress party in the state.
\nHe lambasted the Congress party\u2019s Lok Sabha candidate, K. Asungba Sangtam for trying to fool the Nagas by begging votes saying that the party has not been able to handle the Naga political issue while at the \u201chot seat.\u201d
\nThe chief minister reiterated that the DAN government had achieved in the last six years what the Congress party has not achieved in 29 years. DAN\u2019s consensus Lok Sabha candidate, C.M Chang said that the success of the NPF and DAN candidates largely depended on the municipal and town councilors as they were the direct representatives of the people at the grass root level.
\nHe also appealed the municipal and town councilors to work hard for the forth coming election in order to get thumbing majority in the Lok Sabha election.
\nHe further assured that he would take up the Naga political issue and work differently unlike the previous Lok Sabha members in the parliament. CM Chang viewed that the Nagas should be more sincere in solving the Naga political problem and said it could be achieved only if he was elected to stand for the party.
\nBriefing on the concerns of the municipal and town councils in the state, DMC Chairperson, Khekaho Assumi requested the chief minister and the DAN government to enable separate directorate for the municipal and town councils, to allot specific budget for the municipal and town councils and also to look into the amendment of the Municipal Act 2001.
\nHe requested the DAN government to hand various departments to the municipal and town councils so that various funds could be sanctioned directly from the central government to which the chief minister assured to consider and examine on the matter.
\nRajya Sabha MP, H. Khekiho Zhimomi and power minister, Doshehe also spoke on the occasion. Earlier the programme was chaired by DMC ward 14 councilor, Thungchanthung Lotha which was attended by about 100 party workers and representatives from various municipal and town councils.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
