Says 50 new airports projects planned for NE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Union of Minister of State (MoS) for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, on Tuesday highlighted Union Budget 2025 and emphasized the Centre\u2019s commitment to the development of the North East region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a press conference at the State BJP Headquarters here, Singh underscored the Centre\u2019s ongoing efforts to integrate the North East region into the national development framework and said that the region was a crucial part of India\u2019s growth trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintaining that India remained the fastest-growing economy, Singh said the latest budget was a landmark policy document reflecting the aspirations of the people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s vision for a \u201cViksit Bharat and Atma Nirbhar Bharat\u201d by 2047.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to queries regarding the reduction of railway operations from Dimapur, Singh attributed the changes to the development of new railway lines in the region, leading to trains originating from different stations instead of Dimapur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also cited the expansion of highways and improved regional connectivity services as contributing factors to reduced railway traffic. Singh assured that the matter would be taken into consideration for potential railway reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also highlighted the success of the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme, which has led to the addition of multiple airports, new railway lines, and upgraded stations, enhancing accessibility to and from the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singh disclosed that the current budget included provisions for 50 new airports in the North East region, out of the 120 new destinations planned across India. On the long-pending Chiethu greenfield airport project in Kohima, Singh said he would look into the matter and provide finer details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he noted that the development of new airports required considerations such as land availability, infrastructure connectivity, and project feasibility. He pointed out that the budget placed special emphasis on increasing farmers\u2019 incomes, bolstering small and medium enterprises, enhancing exports, boosting defence production, generating employment, eradicating poverty, providing quality education, upskilling the youth workforce, and empowering women and tribal communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singh also noted significant tax reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business, strengthening industries, expanding universal healthcare, and enhancing national connectivity through increased allocations for roads, highways, railways, and air travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Acknowledging the historical challenges faced by the North East region due to infrastructure deficits, the minister stated that the government has made significant progress in bridging this gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Singh also emphasized the role of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in ensuring dedicated funding and administrative oversight for the region\u2019s development. He said that a separate ministry for the region was beneficial and was a unique ministry which was not found elsewhere in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He clarified that while the Act East Policy, which is under the Ministry of External Affairs, focused on fostering diplomatic and infrastructural ties with neighbouring countries, adding that it was not exclusively directed at the North East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Highlighting the region\u2019s economic potential, MoS pointed out that the North East has significant opportunities in eco-tourism, which could generate substantial income for local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He also noted the narrowing of the mental and infrastructural divide between the North East and the rest of the country, aided by the rapid expansion of digital connectivity. Singh stated that internet access would be extended to villages, panchayats, and schools, enabling advancements in education, healthcare, and other sectors through information technology, which he said was also key priorities of the Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Reiterating the Centre\u2019s commitment to the holistic development of the North East region, Singh assured that the government remained focused on ensuring inclusive growth, improved connectivity, and sustained infrastructural progress in the region.
