Eastern Naga Students\u2019 Federation (ENSF) has said that school education department\u2019s decision to put the recent rationalization process on hold for further review has led to a severe shortage of teachers in many schools across Eastern Nagaland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release, ENSF president Chingmak Chang and assistant general secretary Molo Phom asserted that the issue, if not addressed at the earliest, would have far-reaching consequences, disrupting the academic environment and depriving students of their fundamental right to quality education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The signatories said the federation at its presidential meet held on February 25, 2025, at the Conference Hall, DUDA Guest House, Kohima, expressed deep concern over the department\u2019s notifications issued on February 6 and February 10, 2025, regarding the rationalization, transfer, and posting of teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federation reminded the school education department of the notification dated January 9, 2009 and subsequent Letter No. DSE\/GEN-REP\/2013(VOL-1)\/567 dated Kohima, the January 19, 2019, which \u201cclearly states that no post shall be transferred out of the six (6) districts of Eastern Nagaland along with the incumbent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, ENSF said that contrary to the department\u2019s standing notification, a total of 26 teachers were transferred out without relievers during the recent rationalization of teachers from six districts of Eastern Nagaland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In light of the above, the Federation has strongly demanded the department to take note of its key demands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Retention of teachers until relievers are appointed: ENSF said department should implement the existing Notification dated January 9, 2009 and subsequent Letter No. DSE\/GEN-REP\/2013(VOL-1)\/567 dated Kohima, the 19th January 2019 in regard to transfer and reliever policy of teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recommendation\/forwarding of DEOs & SDEOs from the next rationalization process: To address existing challenges in the state\u2019s education system, the federation urged the department to conduct a thorough review by collecting proper statistical data through the DEO and SDEO. Further, ENSF suggested that local stakeholders should be involved to ensure that the next rationalization process was just and equitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Political interference in teacher transfers: To ensure a fair and justified rationalization process, the ENSF appealed to the department not to be carried away by any political pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recruitment of subject teachers: ENSF has urged the department to have special recruitment drive of subject teachers for Eastern Nagaland as there was huge shortage of teachers across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ENSF has, therefore, urged the department to take immediate corrective steps and adopt measures to prevent further disruption in education and to uphold the best interests of the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presidential meet was attended by representatives from its eight federating units vis-\u00e0-vis Phom Students\u2019 Conference, Tikhir Students\u2019 Union, Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students\u2019 Union, Chang Wedoshi Setsang, Konyak Students\u2019 Union, United Sangtam Students\u2019 Conference, Yimkhiung Akher\u00fc Arihako, and Khiamniungan Students\u2019 Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
