The demand for tickets has been overwhelming, with matches selling out in no time. More than once, I found myself scrambling for a seat, only to be met with disappointment. Some ticket-holders were even turned away due to overcrowding. If this isn’t proof that we need a bigger, fully functional stadium, what is?
Dimapur has all the makings of a sports hub—excellent connectivity, a growing community of athletes, and an ever-increasing love for the game. Yet, one crucial element is missing: a stadium worthy of this passion.
The Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex (MDSC), envisioned as a beacon of sporting excellence, remains frozen in time, incomplete and underutilized.
Originally planned in 2006, the MDSC was meant to be a world-class facility, a place where dreams would take flight. With a seating capacity for 30,000 spectators and space to accommodate multiple sporting disciplines, it was set to become a game-changer. But as the years have passed, so has the excitement. The unfinished structure, instead of echoing with cheers and celebration, stands eerily silent—more a relic than a revolution.
The recent Inspection by MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu and the subsequent report to expedite the project demonstrate the government’s commitment to providing world-class sports infrastructure.
Sports in Nagaland is not just about competition; it’s about identity, ambition, and community.
