The Signal Phom Union Dimapur (SPUD) commemorated its Silver Jubilee on Saturday with a vibrant celebration held at the Signal Phom Baptist Church premises, marking 25 years of unity, growth, and cultural identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gracing the occasion as the special guest, MLA A. Pongshi Phom emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage while embracing progressive ideals. He expressed concern over the distortion of traditional attire in modern adaptations, warning that such practices can dilute ethnic identity and lead to internal fragmentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen our attire does not match, it reflects a lack of unity. Our attire is our identity, designed by our forefathers with immense thought and effort,\u201d he stated, urging the community not to misinterpret or modernize cultural symbols in ways that lose their original significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also called on the community to foster unity by promoting positive ideals, warning against becoming \u201ca rotten potato\u201d that spreads negativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MLA B. Bangtick Phom, attending as guest of honour, praised SPUD\u2019s journey of unity and resilience over the past 25 years. He urged members to continue depending on divine guidance in their path forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joining the celebration, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dimapur, I. Meren Chenth, NPS, reflected on the union\u2019s early struggles and achievements. He paid tribute to the pioneers whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for the present. Speaking on the persistence of clanism and tribalism in Naga society, Chenth urged the Phom community to uphold their peaceful nature and unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also addressed youth-related issues, particularly unemployment, and encouraged young people to explore opportunities beyond government jobs. He urged them not to rely solely on BT quota privileges, noting the uncertainty of such provisions in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dimapur Phom Union President, Er. Thokphen Phom, commended SPUD for its enduring leadership and unity, saying, \u201cYour union has been fruitful and has reaped what it sowed.\u201d
SPUD\u2019s first president, K. Tongpang Phom, emotionally recalled the challenges faced during the early days of the union\u2019s formation and expressed joy at the progress made. \u201cThe vision to keep our tribe united has borne fruit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A greetings message was also shared by DPUD Silver Jubilee Chairman, NT Thamlong.
