The newly constructed village gates of Chedema Village and Chedema Model Village were inaugurated at a joint programme held at the Chedema trijunction on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gracing the occasion as guest of honour, former MLA of 10th Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency, Khriehu Liezietsu, underscored the historical and cultural significance of traditional Naga village gates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He pointed out that in the past, such gates were critical defensive structures, built to ward off enemies and mark territorial boundaries. Liezietsu also noted that those who committed grievous crimes in the community were once expelled to live outside these gates, reflecting their importance in upholding justice and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed satisfaction that the two gates\u2014now completed\u2014would serve not only as welcome signs for visitors but also as enduring symbols of identity and heritage for the twin villages. According to him, nearly every Naga village today possesses its own gate, highlighting a shared cultural practice rooted in tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liezietsu extended gratitude to the landowners who voluntarily parted with their land for the project. He acknowledged the collective efforts of the community members, emphasizing that the gates\u2019 construction required significant time, energy, and cooperation from various individuals throughout the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Explaining the symbolism incorporated in the gate designs, he shared that bulls\u2014depicted as motifs\u2014represent wealth, while warrior figures stand as guardians of the village. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Machete sheaths are also featured as they were among the first weapons traditionally carried by Naga men. He concluded by offering a prayerful wish, stating that all who pass through the gates may be blessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inaugural programme was chaired by Chedema Village Council chairman Seyiech\u00fctuo Suokhrie, invocation by Rev.
