A similar meeting followed on April 29 at the DC\u2019s Conference Hall, Dimapur, addressing concerns and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The meeting at Ch\u00fcmoukedima was chaired by Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo, ADC cum Adjudicating Officer (AO) of Food Safety. He urged Food Business Operators (FBOs) to share grievances regarding business operations while reinforcing mandatory labeling requirements for PDW.<br>He cautioned that failure to comply would be deemed illegal, raising concerns over water sample collection and inspection protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Dr. Kuzonyi clarified that FBOs must collect their own water samples and send them to an FSSAI-notified laboratory. A Food Safety official would then oversee the process to validate the source, ensuring regulatory adherence. He also emphasized the importance of site hygiene and water source quality when setting up bottling plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>At the Dimapur meeting, ADC cum AO of Food Safety, Zakabo V Rotokha, reiterated the importance of strict compliance with food safety regulations. He noted that water was a high-risk food product and expressed concern that many PDW bottles were being sold without labels, violating basic safety standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>He highlighted past food safety violations, where FBOs faced penalties for non-compliance.<br>Samuel Zehol, Designated Officer, stressed that food safety is everyone\u2019s responsibility and that FSSAI licensing and water analysis from an accredited lab remain mandatory. He warned that non-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (Sections 58 and 63) would result in legal action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>FBOs raised concerns over labeling difficulties, the high cost of testing (valid for only six months), and complications arising from failed water analyses. They also requested extensions for renovation and infrastructure upgrades. Officials assured that while reasonable relaxations would be considered, water quality analysis and labeling regulations would not be compromised.
