The Phase-II Go Green Initiative Program, a collaborative effort between LEMSACHENLOK and Tata Motors Ltd., was officially launched at Pholok, Sanglu Village, Longleng district on May 6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremonial plantation drive was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W. Manpai Phom in the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) of Longleng, Yanger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address, Manpai Phom extended his best wishes to Team LEMSACHENLOK for their ambitious initiative to plant 10 lakh saplings during the Phase-II drive, which will involve 12 communities across two to three districts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized the importance of sustainability and urged community members to take ownership of their tree-planting efforts, stressing that conservation must be a collective responsibility. He lauded LEMSACHENLOK\u2019s scientific approach to biodiversity conservation and assured full district cooperation in supporting their interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the event, SP Longleng, Yanger, commended LEMSACHENLOK for their efforts in environmental conservation. He noted that those who plant trees contribute globally to ecological balance, despite the challenges that come with sustaining plantations. He encouraged the team to remain steadfast in their noble mission and pledged his full cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chairman and team leader of LEMSACHENLOK, Dr. Y. Nuklu Phom, elaborated on the broader responsibilities of conservation beyond afforestation. He highlighted pressing environmental concerns such as climate change, invasive pests, declining agricultural productivity, and drying ancestral water sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to these challenges, he outlined LEMSACHENLOK\u2019s multi-pronged approach, which includes resource mapping, land-use planning, camera trapping exercises, and biodiversity conservation initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further detailed their Redeeming Eden venture under MissioEcology, focusing on seven key categories of plant species, including fast-growing trees, pollutant-filtering species, fruit-bearing varieties for both human and wildlife consumption, medicinal plants, nitrogen-fixing trees, and groundwater-recharging species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It may be mentioned that since 2024, LEMSACHENLOK, in collaboration with Tata Motors Ltd., has been working towards a community-based plantation drive, integrating ecological balance with sustainable livelihoods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization aligns its goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring both environmental protection and economic empowerment for participating communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Further, LEMSACHENLOK extended their gratitude to W. Manpai Phom and Yanger for launching the initiative and inspiring collective responsibility towards conservation.
