The project, which has won national recognition, including the SKOCH Award 2024, focuses on ecological restoration, rural livelihoods, and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The JICA team\u2014comprising Ishikawa Saya, representative, and Sushma Sen Adarshi, development specialist\u2014was accompanied by Temjenyapang, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Director), Rongsenlemla, Conservator of Forests (NTC), and other officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The team visited Merangkong village on May 13, where the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) presented a report on project activities. Members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) showcased their progress, particularly in income-generating activities and skill development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JICA officials encouraged sustainable resource management and praised the restoration work at JAF treatment sites, where species like Duabanga Grandiflora, Ailanthus altissima, and Phoebe sp. were thriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>On May 14, the team inspected EPA &amp; WHS convergence efforts in Aliba village, a flagship initiative benefiting over 100 households. They also visited Chungtia village and reviewed SHG operations, nursery projects, and financial records. The main livelihood focus of SHGs in these villages has been piggery and poultry, given their cost-effectiveness and profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Mokokchung Forest Division has restored 4,968 hectares across 14 villages since 2020, planting nearly 10 lakh saplings. By the end of 2025, an additional 1,289 hectares will be covered, with 2.2 lakh saplings planted. The project has also increased forest cover by 14.88 sq km, rehabilitating scrub areas and moderately dense forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>At present, 42 SHGs have completed their first cycle of activities, with several progressing to second and third cycles.
