{"id":488025,"date":"2025-05-19T01:11:53","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T19:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.com\/?p=488025"},"modified":"2025-05-19T10:16:20","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T04:46:20","slug":"international-aids-candlelight-memorial-observed-at-neissr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2025\/05\/19\/international-aids-candlelight-memorial-observed-at-neissr\/","title":{"rendered":"International AIDS candlelight memorial observed at NEISSR"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 42nd International AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2025 was solemnly observed at the Peace Centre, North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) under the theme \u201cWe Remember, We Rise, We Lead.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was organized by District Integrated Strategy for HIV\/AIDS (DISHA) Dimapur, in collaboration with DLN, Sshakti NNP+, DDUN, CDUN, and partner TI NGOs\/LWS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The memorial drew over 220 participants, providing a moment of remembrance, solidarity, and renewed support for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). Director of NEISSR, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto, served as the guest speaker, calling the memorial \u201ca candle of hope\u201d and highlighting the need for empathy and courageous leadership to combat stigma. He emphasized the pressing reality that over 36,000 people in Nagaland, including 15,000+ from Dimapur, Ch\u00fcmoukedima, and Niuland live with HIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>In his address, Dr. Fr. Anto emphasized the significance of the day as a collective act of remembrance, resilience, and leadership. \u201cThis memorial is not just about mourning; it\u2019s about lighting our candles with hope,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted the staggering statistics\u2014over 40 million people worldwide have succumbed to AIDS-related illnesses, with over 36,000 currently living with HIV in Nagaland alone. Of these, more than 15,000 are from Dimapur, Ch\u00fcmoukedima, and Niuland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that Mizoram and Manipur are also witnessing high numbers. He called for kindness and courageous leadership within families, schools, churches, and communities, advocating for empathy, truth-sharing, and vocal support for PLHIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The program also featured a message of commitment by Principal, Godwin HSS Ch\u00fcmoukedima, Mhasino Kuots\u00fc, Earlier, the event was chaired by project coordinator of Sshakti CSC Imliakum Imsong and invocation was offered by assistant director NEISSR, Rev. Fr. Lawrence. While Sukoi from DNP+ shared the significance of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President of DNP+, Lebongse Sangtam, gave a message on behalf of the PLHIV community. Special musical performances by the Charity Sisters of NEISSR and members of the Ch\u00fcmoukedima District Users Network (CDUN) added a moving cultural touch to the evening.
