{"id":488312,"date":"2025-05-21T12:20:02","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.com\/?p=488312"},"modified":"2025-05-21T12:20:05","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:50:05","slug":"monsoon-preparedness-cm-directs-officials-to-make-assessment-of-essential-commodities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2025\/05\/21\/monsoon-preparedness-cm-directs-officials-to-make-assessment-of-essential-commodities\/","title":{"rendered":"Monsoon preparedness: CM directs officials to make assessment of essential commodities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, on Tuesday directed the officials to make an assessment of essential commodities across the districts before the monsoon season sets in.<br>According to a DIPR report, the chief minister gave directive while chairing the monsoon preparedness meeting at chief minister conference hall Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima on May 20, 2025.<br>The chief minister, who reviewed road maintenance, quality control, traffic regulation, machinery stock, power supply, medical response, essential commodities, &amp; emergency services, said timely action was key to mitigating disasters.<br>Rio, who is also NSDMA chairman, said if there were any complaints from any village or towns on shortage of essential commodities, the matter has to be reported. He also instructed the department to monitor the fair price shop and ensure that consumer\u2019s rights were protected.<br>The chief minister also directed the PWD department to find out how many tons could be carried by trucks on national highway, adding that tons had to be specified and monitored during the monsoon season.<br>He advised the administration and police department to send team of officers and Dobashis for routine road checks so there was smooth flow of traffic in towns and also on national highways during the monsoon season. Rio also shared his views and concerns on restoring the State Quality Control Board in Nagaland at the earliest.<br>Further, the chief minister instructed the chief secretary to have a video-conferencing with all the deputy commissioners and update the status of the essential commodities and preparedness across the districts.<br>Sharing his views on road sector, minister for Roads &amp; Bridges, G Kaito Aye, said that people of the state want good road and therefore NHIDCL should start taking serious responsibility and provide resilient road. Kaito also requested the disaster management department to park a specific amount of fund for the emergency response, which could be utilized by any department pertaining to the welfare of the people during the monsoon season.<br>He also called upon the NHIDCL and the concerned department to identify pocket wise area where immediate restoration and repair was required. He urged the NHIDCL to adapt restoration strategies and ensuring their effectiveness.<br>Further, minister requested the mechanical department to update the statues of the machinery available for the upcoming monsoon season.<br>Minister for Public Health Engineering, Jacob Zhimomi, said since the soil condition of Nagaland was very watery, strict protocol during road construction has to be followed. He stressed that soil testing has to be done. Zhimomi asked NHIDCL to instruct the contractors to follow strict protocols during road construction for durability and sustainability of the road.<br>Minister also advised the contractors that once the surface was complete, they should not leave any residue on the road.<br>Giving a power point presentation on \u2018Monsoon 2025 forecasting for Nagaland\u2019, NSDMA joint chief executive officer, Johnny Ruangmei, said distribution of rainfall pattern across the State would witness un-uniform and erratic which would impact crop plantation season.<br>Johnny said that a proactive disaster risk reduction approach combined with preparedness, data driven planning and community engagement could significantly reduce potential risks.<br>PWD (R&amp;B) and NHIDCL also gave power point presentation on \u2018Monsoon preparedness and resilient of road infrastructure sector\u2019 while preparedness of emergency response agencies was presented by HG, CD&amp;SDRF\/ NDRF.
