As the monsoon season approaches, Vector Borne Disease Control Programme under the Department of Health & Family Welfare. Kohima. Nagaland, would like to inform the public of Nagaland about the control & prevention of Vector Borne Diseases. Urging the public to take necessary precautions to prevent the outbreak of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis.
As the rainfalls has started, water will be getting collected in and around our houses, different mosquitoes transmitting different diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis will start breeding and multiply. Some cases of malaria & dengue have already been detected. Standing water and increased humidity during the monsoon create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Timely preventive action can drastically reduce the spread of these diseases.
It is therefore an earnest request to the public to check weekly the stagnant water, remove & also look for the materials that is lying around our houses to be removed to avoid water collected, even a small collection is enough for mosquito to breed.
If this is corrected out regular on a weekly basis, mosquito population will be checked.
The public are also requested to wear clothing which will prevent them from getting mosquito bite, use mosquito repellent, cream & screens on windows\/doors & regular use of long-lasting insecticide nets (LLIN) provided by the government is a must.
The control & prevention of vector borne disease lies mainly on the public cooperation. The following do\u2019s & don\u2019t may be kept in mind for every individual\u2019s safety. If you or a family member experiences symptoms like persistent fever, joint pain, or fatigue, report to your nearest health facility immediately.
State, Vector Borne Disease Control Programme remains committed to safeguarding public health. With community participation and awareness, we can successfully curb the spread of vector-borne diseases this monsoon season.
DENGUE SURGE AND DO\u2019S AND DON\u2019TS:
\uf09f TO DO:
\uf09f Rest: Get plenty of rest to help your body to recover.
\uf09f Take fever medicine such as paracetamol \/Acetaminophen.
\uf09f Stay hydrated: Hydrate yourself, take plenty of fluids.
\uf09f Consult doctor if you experience bleeding (from your gum nose, urine, bloody stool) instead use mouth wash.
\uf09f Protect yourself from mosquito bite: the same mosquito will bite your family members and infect them.
\uf09f Use mosquito net whenever you sleep. Wearing clothes that reduce the amount of skin exposure or use repellents during day time.
\uf09f Secure windows and doors: Use wire mesh on your windows and doors to prevent mosquito from entering your house.
\uf09f Mosquito population reduction: Ensure materials outside your house don\u2019t collect water during rainy season as mosquito breeds there.
\uf09f Visiting Dengue outbreak area: Take measures to avoid getting mosquito bite or else you get dengue.
DENGUE SURGE AND DO\u2019S AND DON\u2019TS:

\uf09f Avoid self medication or consult unqualified person.
\uf09f Medication caution: Avoid Ibuprofen, Aspirin as they may increase risk of bleeding.
\uf09f Limit physical activities: Avoid strenuous activity.
\uf09f Oral care: If you have bleeding gums use mouth wash, of brushing your teeth.
\uf09f Do notlet stagnant water remain around your house, remove them weekly if not daily.
\uf09f Refrain from visiting outbreak area as far as possible.
\uf09f Avoid sitting outside without protection during early hours of morning and late in the evening, dengue causing mosquitoes are active during these period.
\uf09f Visiting Dengue patient: avoid getting mosquito bites.
\uf09f Steroids: Steroid does not have much benefit.
\uf09f Platelet transfusion caution: Avoid platelet transfusion unnecessary, all dengue patient doesn\u2019t require but only patient having bleeding manifestations & other supper added conditions.
\uf09f Fogging: Don\u2019t rely solely on fogging as it has side effects and doesn\u2019t eliminate eggs and larvae.
\uf09f RDT Dengue: Be cautious with RDT, they can produce false positives. Confirm it from Sentinel site hospitals (Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and District Hospital Dimapur). GOI & ICMR do not recommend the use of RDT for dengue diagnosis.
