The Department of Labour, in collaboration with District Administration across multiple districts, has launched the second round Special Nationwide Registration Campaign to register gig and platform workers on the e-Shram Portal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The campaign, scheduled from May 20 to 30, aims to provide formal recognition and extended social protection to workers in this sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release, Labour Commissioner, Er. SL Wati Aier highlighted that, according to Niti Aayog, India\u2019s gig workforce is expected to exceed one crore in 2024-25 and reach 2.35 crores by 2029-30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acknowledging the growing significance of gig and platform work, the Union Budget 2025-26 included provisions for their registration on e-Shram, the issuance of official ID cards, and coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gig workers, engaged in various hourly or part-time jobs from catering events to software development, and platform workers, who provide services through digital platforms such as delivery agents, will benefit from this initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the campaign, registered workers will receive official identity cards and gain access to the AB-PMJAY scheme, which offers an annual health cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family across over 31,000 empanelled hospitals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the 10-day campaign, on-ground registration camps are being set up at district and sub-division levels in coordination with field officials and platform companies.
