The focus was fully on fashion and there was no socialite or Bollywood presence. The first day ended with impeccable collection from New York-based designer Vivienne Tam. She showcased stylish wearable clothes in vibrant colours.

Shows that dominated Day 1:
Gauri & Nainika
The opening of the week was with caged models flowing out in effortlessly draped silhouettes. Fabrics that are feathery in weight and are fluid over the body dominated the show. A sense of ease with light-hearted silhouettes in nudes made their way to shocking acid colours towards the end of the show

Anky by Anjana Bhargava
Anjana launched her daughter, Ankita. Structured deconstruction was the lifeline of the collection. White, ecru and dove grey colour palette added a calming effect. The lacy semi ballerina tie ups were commendable and accentuated the garments. Cleverly put down drapes, pleats and tucks shaped the garment on the body.

Manoviraj Khosla
Androgynous is the word that describes the collection. It was a good change during the day with a men’s wear collection. He lived up to the expectations with yet another line of bold styling. Sunburnt oranges scorched the runway. He played around with tights, pleated harem pants and oh-so-short shorts.

Siddhartha Tytler
The collection touched the two extreme ends, starting with a magnificent chic look to a daring warrior princess-inspired ensemble. The heavy silks and heavily woven chatai technique moved the focus from Spring/Summer. A fully sequinned warrior princess segment with a bad mix of colours had fascinating intricate motifs.

Ranna Gill
This collection titled Nirvana had sexy feminine lone jersey dresses and mini dresses in her signature geometric prints.
The key trend of the day included mix-n-match. Secondly, fluidity seemed to be flowing all over the ramp. There was volume in the garments and an ease and looseness about fabrics which gave the wearer a felling of freedom of movement.
Finally, feminity was back with a bang with natural hairstyles; curve-accentuating garments and elegant styling.

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’09 kicked off in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi with Gauri & Nainika’s show.
