\nOrganized and sponsored by Agriculture Department, Longleng, the awareness campaign saw Nihekhu encouraging the Agri and Allied departments to work together with full cooperation with each other in implementing different kinds of schemes to uplift poor farmers in the district level at the same time urged for the community\u2019s involvement and cooperation amongst villagers.
\nDeepak Chetri, SDAO, Aboi, who was the resource person, spoke on rodent management and population control including baits, traps (bamboo traps) and chemical control.
\n Deepak highlighted on importance of terrace cultivation, bunding, cover crops in Jhum field in other country (Nepal) through power point and after which interaction with the participants were also conducted.
\nThe resource person also demonstrated various preparations of \u2018bait and bait\u2019 stations and told that chemical control should come at the last phase where local traps should be introduced initially at community level.
\nAltogether, about 60 farmers participated in the campaign. Earlier, the programme which was chaired by S. Yongchang Phom, SDAO Longleng, started with an invocation prayer by Shoang, AO, while keynote address was delivered by Hamnyi Phom, president, PCC. A vote of thanks was delivered by Yimkum (AFA), Agri department.
\nAkuluto: Agriculture department under Akuluto Sub Division organised a rodent management campaign as well as field survey of rat incidences since July 16.
\nA release issued by SDAO Ataoi Sema stated the officials inspected bamboo flowering, percentage of forest coverage with bamboo and reported incidences of increase of rat population in the field as well as at home. They advised farmers to report to departmental field staff immediately in the event of any abnormal increase in rat population and any other problems to the FIAC (Farm Information and Advisory Centre) under ATMA at SDAO\u2019s office Akuluto which was inaugurated recently and is in operation now.
\nThe release further stated that a season long IPM-FFS (Farmers Field School) has begun in the farmers field at Phishumi village on July17, where 37 farmers from 22 adjoining fields participated in the programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
