{"id":5169,"date":"2008-11-04T00:51:37","date_gmt":"2008-11-04T00:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/11\/04\/corruption-is-cancerous-sankaranayanan\/"},"modified":"2008-11-04T00:51:37","modified_gmt":"2008-11-04T00:51:37","slug":"corruption-is-cancerous-sankaranayanan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/11\/04\/corruption-is-cancerous-sankaranayanan\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption is cancerous: Sankaranayanan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/CFLHYYQHXPHOJTVWMRIO.JPG>Nagaland governor K Sankaranayanan Monday said corruption was a menace and cancerous and stressed on the need to stop corruption at all levels of governance as the poor people were the most affected.<br \/>\nAddressing the inaugural function of the two-day workshop on capacity building on e-governance for policy makers here at Zonal Council Hall, the governor brushed aside the notion that computerization can stop corruption.<br \/>\n \u201cEven if thousands of computers are installed, corruption can\u2019t be stop as it is just a machine which needs to be feed by man,\u201d Sankaranayanan said and impressed on the need for change of mindset in which both the politicians and the bureaucrats have equal responsibilities.<br \/>\nWhile lauding chief minister Neiphiu Rio on the latter\u2019s effort to bring maximum development in the State, the governor at the same time reminded that at times \u201cthe tyre often get punctured.\u201d<br \/>\nHowever, he was quick to clarify that the reason for the tyre getting punctured was not due to the chief minister.<br \/>\nThe governor also hit out at telecommunication giant BSNL for poor and erratic telecom services in the State. \u201cI am sorry to say, it is very difficult to get connectivity,\u201d Sankaranayanan said in the presence of GM, BSNL (SSA), Dimapur.<br \/>\nUnderscoring the need to improve mobile and broadband coverage in the State, he said BSNL and other mobile companies would have to ensure that they reach to the villages besides covering all the National Highways and State Highways.  \u201cOf course all the services and applications will also require the Power Department to ensure that the services are actually not affected on account of lack of power supply,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nIn his address, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said since e-governance had become synonymous with good governance, one important component of DAN government\u2019s declaration of 2008-2009 as the Year of Capacity Building, was to reform and renew the system of governance and delivery of public services to regain public trust.<br \/>\nStating that e-governance had become the most versatile tool to improve delivery of services  to the citizens and to improve governance, the chief minister called upon all policy makers to embrace e-governance and use it as instrument to transform the system of governance in order to address the socio-economic challenges more effectively.<br \/>\nRio further announced that the Information Technology (IT) department would be giving laptops to all legislators of the State legislative assembly, all the deputy commissioners (DCs) and senior government officers.<br \/>\nEarlier, the inaugural session was chaired chief secretary Lalhuma, while the welcome address was given by secretary (IT), Abhishek Singh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nagaland governor K Sankaranayanan Monday said corruption was a menace and cancerous and stressed on the need to stop corruption at all levels of governance as the poor people were the most affected.
