Citizens of Kohima and Dimapur rose to the call of the State government for sprucing up the two towns in view of the approaching festive season, by taking active part in the mass social work held Saturday.\nIn both the towns, the social work was carried out in a coordinated manner involving government departments and employees, municipal bodies and general public.
\nIn Dimapur, residents of various wards and colonies woke up early morning and began cleaning their compounds, drains and lanes. Eight government departments also contributed manpower and vehicles while the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) engaged its Sanitation department to co-ordinate and supervise in the social work.
\nThe social work that commenced around 6 a.m. continued till 9 a.m.
\nRajya Sabha MP Khekiho Zhimomi along with DMC chairperson Khekaho Assumi and other DMC members also visited almost all the wards and colonies.
\nLater, talking to media persons, the Rajya Sabha MP appreciated the cooperation of the public and said every citizen should develop the civic sense to maintain the environment clean and healthy.
\nKhekiho also said the people of Nagaland were lucky to have a chief minister who was energetic, enthusiastic and with lots of innovative ideas. He also appealed Dimapurians to come forward and extend cooperation to the DMC and the District Administration.
\nDC Dimapur Moangwati Aier said Saturday\u2019s social work was a healthy sign of people coming together with a common concern to beautify their town.
\nInforming that Dimapur town was undergoing a facelift with shopkeepers painting their shops till November 30, the DC also expressed optimism that side by side the condition of roads in Dimapur would also improve with the initiatives of the Roads & Bridges Department.<\/p>\n
