Two persons were killed and seventeen others injured in separate road accidents involving an autorickshaw and a passenger bus near Jalukie Bridge on the Dimapur-Kohima stretch of NH-39.\nPolice suspect that both the incidents were caused due to rash and negligent driving.
\nIn the first incident, two persons were killed and four others including the driver were injured when the auto (NL-07-3585) they were traveling in plunged into Kukidolong river, near Iron bridge, Tuesday around 7.20 a.m.
\nAccording to Dimapur traffic police, one woman identified as Saribam (60) died on spot while another auto passenger identified as Vakhielie Angami (40) succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
\nTraffic Police said the auto along with the passengers was on its way to Dimapur from Medziphema.
\nPolice later arrested the driver of the ill-fated autorickshaw identified as one Muktar Ahmed (39) of Karimganj under Assam.
\nPRO, IGAR (N) in a press release said a party of 42 Assam Rifles traveling in a vehicle bound for Dimapur came upon the accident and immediately swung into rescue operation along with the help of civilians.
\nCivil administration and police also reached the spot and the injured were evacuated for immediate medical treatment.
\nIn another mishap, thirteen passengers of a private bus MVT Rajdhani (MN01-1365) coming from Imphal were injured when the bus fell into the Kukidolong river, near Jalukie Bridge, around 5.30 p.m.
\nOne of the injured passengers told this reporter that the bus driver was talking on his mobile phone just before the accident occurred.
\nPolice rushed to the spot and the injured were shifted to Zion Hospital and Dimapur Civil Hospital.
