\nKPC and DIPR observed Press Day under the theme \u201cWomen and Media\u201d at the DPRO building, Kohima, with Commissioner and Secretary, IPR and Horticulture, Sentiyanger Imchen gracing the occasion as chief guest and senior lecturer, Department of English, Nagaland University, Rosemary Dz\u00fcvich\u00fc as guest speaker.
\nImchen in his address called upon the media to be catalysts of change to transform the State into a modern and progressive society. Stating that the role of media was to provide information, entertainment and education, the commissioner and secretary observed that at present, education was overshadowed by the other two aspects, and therefore urged the media to educate and mould public opinion with fairness.
\nRosemary who spoke on the topic \u201cWomen and media\u201d said it was time that Nagas redefine Naga history from the perspective of women. She said issues confronting Naga women, rights of women and other global issues could be discussed through the media. Deputy director, IPR, Limawati, proposed vote of thanks. KPC expressed gratitude to the chief minister for donating a sum of Rs.50,000.
\nIn Dimapur, additional chief secretary and development commissioner Alemtemshi Jamir who graced the programme organized by DPC at Tourist Lodge as the chief guest, in his address said the media in Nagaland had come a long way.
\nHe said control of violence in the State was, to a large extent, a contribution of the local media and lauded mediapersons for their contribution towards positive growth of society despite innumerable constraints.
\nTerming the media as the \u201creal agents of change\u201d, Jamir said the media should help in moulding the thought processes of the people. \u201cUndertaking responsibility of change whether it is for right or wrong depends on you and that\u2019s where the responsibility lies with you,\u201d he added.
\nOthers who spoke on the occasion included Abu Metha, press secretary to the chief minister, Temjen, editor Tir Yimyim, Akum Longchari, editor Morung Express, SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha and DMC chairperson Khekaho Assumi.
