Nine persons, including a two year-old boy and another IRB jawan , died and ten sustained various injuries after the ill-fated night super bus of Rajdhani Travels (MN 04 A-2629)in which they were traveling from Imphal to Dimapur overturned and plunged into Chathe river,160 feet below on Thursday at around 11.30 p.m.\nPolice along with a team from the nearby post of the 20 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot located between Peren-Jalukie bridge and New Police Check Gate Chumukedima.A four-hour long search and rescue led to recovery of five bodies after midnight Thursday while four more were recovered on Friday at around 11 a.m. Both the drivers and the helper also died on the spot. According to Assam Rifles source, the efforts of the 20 AR resulted in saving lives of 14 injured persons and recovery of five dead bodies.
\nThose who died were identified as- Waris Khan (2); Yants\u00fcmong Chang (28) \u2018A\u2019 company IR (10 NAP); Peipei Lamkhong (25); Poujanglong Pamei (from Manipur) ; Esther Mao (28) from Senapati; Aboi Meitei (driver); Tomba (co-driver), Adem (helper). The body of a male aged around 30, was yet to be identified at the time of filing this report. The mother of child identified as Ibamcha suffered serious injuries and admitted to Metro Hospital.
\nThe injured included- Pants\u00fc Yimchunger (27) IRB(10 NAP) Chedema; Sunil Kumar (35); M.T. Md. Shahabuddin (41) Havildar CRPF; Nureta (30); Sakibur Rahman (32); Ibamcha (35); More Sachin (26) BRTF 83 RCC; N. Gibon Singh (35) Army (West Bengal) from; R.P. Singh (25) driver BRTF and Raja (18) m all from Imphal. The injured were admitted to Dimapur Civil Hospital and later shifted to private hospitals.
\nAn amount of Rs. 5,955 was collected by passersby for the injured persons, sources said. One of the injured survivors, said there were 23 occupants in the bus after some passengers got on board other vehicles when the ill-fated bus suffered tyre punctures thrice before reaching Kohima.
\nThe bus left Imphal Thursday at around 10: 20 a.m but the punctures caused delays. Among those who got into the bus included the IRB jawans in Kohima. Police sources said that 37 passengers boarded the bus at Imphal and at the time of accident there were only 23 passengers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
