{"id":5671,"date":"2008-07-02T00:22:45","date_gmt":"2008-07-02T00:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/07\/02\/asu-calls-off-boycott-against-kck\/"},"modified":"2008-07-02T00:22:45","modified_gmt":"2008-07-02T00:22:45","slug":"asu-calls-off-boycott-against-kck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/07\/02\/asu-calls-off-boycott-against-kck\/","title":{"rendered":"ASU calls off boycott against KCK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/lead.JPG>Following the reported assurance of Higher Education minister Dr. Shurzhozelie Liezietsu to the 3-point demand of the Angami Students\u2019 Union (ASU) relating to admission issue in Kohima College Kohima (KCK), popularly known as Arts College, the union has called off its boycott of the college. <br \/>An ASU delegation led by its president Kelhouneizo Yhome and other senior members called on Higher Education minister Dr. Shurzhozelie Liezietsu at his office chamber on Tuesday afternoon.<br \/>&nbsp;\u201cDuring our meeting and discussion, the minister agreed to our demands and a notification would issued by Director Higher Education in this connection revoking the earlier order\u201d, Yhome said.<br \/>&nbsp;\u201cSince the government has accepted our demand, we have called off our agitation\u201d, he added.<br \/>Earlier on Tuesday morning, hundreds of ASU volunteers gathered outside the college, carrying placards some of which read \u201cWhere\u2019ll I study?&nbsp; I cant\u2019 afford to study in a private college. May be Assam Government college\u201d, \u201cAct now or resign\u201d, \u201cOur rights are our virtue \u201c, \u201cEducation is not a joy ride\u201d, \u201cDon\u2019t deprived the students\u201d and \u201cPoor students in Kohima district cannot study in other districts colleges.\u201d <br \/>A large banner which read \u201cImmediately implement the three -points competency demand\u201d was also put up on the gate of the college by the volunteers. <br \/>ASU volunteers also burnt effigy of the college principal and shouted slogans and even blocked the roads adjacent to the college.<br \/>Talking to mediapersons, ASU president said the three-point demand are: students who passed HSLC from government schools should be given priority in admission, students who passed out from Kohima district should be given priority in admission and students who passed Class XII from the College be given privilege to directly get admission into BA courses.&nbsp;&nbsp; <br \/>Earlier in the day, DC Kohima convened a joint meeting with ASU, Art College authority and advisory board of the college.
