{"id":5797,"date":"2008-08-18T00:40:38","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T00:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/08\/18\/nagas-living-under-insecurity-chingwang-2\/"},"modified":"2008-08-18T00:40:38","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T00:40:38","slug":"nagas-living-under-insecurity-chingwang-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/08\/18\/nagas-living-under-insecurity-chingwang-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Nagas living under insecurity: Chingwang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/Chingwang Konyak.JPG>Leader of the Congress Legislator Party(CLP)   Chingwang Konyak has lamented about the prevailing situation in Nagaland where Nagas from one place felt insecure to visit other Naga inhabited areas freely.<br \/>\n \u201cIt is not that Nagas fear Indian army nor other security forces but they (Nagas) fear their own brothers,\u201d he told NEPS here today. He said, \u201cunless and until this barrier is completely removed, no solution to the Naga political issue would be forthcoming.\u201d<br \/>\nIn this connection, the veteran Congress leader said that the first and foremost step the Nagas should pursue was \u201cpeace and unity\u201d amongst themselves before they set out for any peace process and political negotiation with the Government of India.<br \/>\n\u201cWhere is the logic to have political negotiation or peace process with the Government of India, when killings amongst Naga brethren continue unabated,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nKonyak also said cease fires were rendered meaningless because the government could not enforce the ground rules as   mutually agreed upon between the signatories.<br \/>\n \u201cTherefore, I have been telling the Government that it should strictly enforce the cease fire ground rules,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nAsked about the role of DAN\u2019s Political Affairs Committee(PAC) towards reconciliation and unity among the underground factions, Konyak wondered if the efforts of the  PAC would bring any progress towards reconciliation amongst factions.<br \/>\n\u201cAs far as past experience is concerned, I don\u2019t think PAC\u2019s meeting with leaders of various factions will bring reconciliation and unity amongst leaders of various factions.\u201d   Konyak however, said the realization of unity must first come from the leaders of factions before any settlement.<br \/>\nAsked if he had any hope that state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio would facilitate the  narrowing of differences between the factions, Chingwang said, \u201cI don\u2019t think so.\u201d<br \/>\nThe  CLP leader  further said \u201cRio might have tried to do something, but as I said no progress would be there unless there is a realization of unity among the underground leaders.\u201d  .<br \/>\nKonyak also alleged that Rio\u2019s  equi-closeness policy had brought more division rather than bringing closeness amongst the factions in the State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leader of the Congress Legislator Party(CLP) Chingwang Konyak has lamented about the prevailing situation in Nagaland where Nagas from one place felt insecure to visit other Naga inhabited areas freely. \u201cIt is not that Nagas fear Indian army nor other security forces but they (Nagas) fear their own brothers,\u201d he told NEPS here today.
