\nThe keynote address was delivered by Menuosietuo Tseikha, DPO, LRD, Longleng.
\nThe technical session followed with brief discussion on cardamom cultivation by Ruokuosietuo, WDT and details on operation of SAWO drier by Angshi Phom, local Cardamom expert from Yongam village. The programme was followed with practical demonstration and discussion hour.
\nWith the liberal and quality supply of cardamom suckers by the department concerned , majority of the villages under Longleng district have taken up cardamom cultivation at large either individually or community, imparting the farmers to obtain bumper harvest at present.
\nWith the development of a first of its kind simple annually and harvesting toll, the villagers of Yongam village ,especially the resource person Angshi is able to harvest 60-70 kgs cardamom per day as compared to 20-30 kg cardamom without use of the particular tools. However with the provision of only single and least capacity drier, the beneficiaries are facing problems and requested concerned department to extend improved and more bearing drier to the villages.
\nThe chairmen of the villages said that the government is extending every possible help in improving the living standard of the village community. However, in the process, it is failing to impart practical know-how, its method and operation of most of the supplied farm inputs to the village level, compelled the farmers to remain as it was before -traditional and conventional.
\nIt also urged the government to give more such demonstration in the future even in the field as well as post harvest technology, adding. Training on application of SAWO drier for Cardamom processing is the first ever practical demonstration conducted in the village and will help the villagers to great extent.
\nEarlier Imlikaba, WDT chaired the programme, invocation prayer pastor of Yaongyimchen and Pongo village and exhortation by chairman of village of both the villages.
