\n\u201cI stand on principle where many people stand on money,\u201d Abdul told TV Guide. \u201cI\u2019m a hard-working artist. I\u2019ve lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can\u2019t do that unless you are good at what you do.\u201d
\nContrary to many reports, Abdul says her decision wasn\u2019t solely based over her salary.
\n\u201cI believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cAnd sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I\u2019ve always believed that at the core I\u2019m a survivor. There\u2019s not one thing I\u2019ve done that I\u2019ve really set my mind to that I\u2019ve failed at\u201d, she added.
\nOne area where Abdul, 47, hasn\u2019t failed is by entertaining audiences. The former \u201cIdol\u201d judge, who recently filmed two episodes of Lifetime\u2019s comedy \u201cDrop Dead Diva\u201d and will host VH1\u2019s Divas Live later this month, has aspirations to return to the small screen.
\n\u201cI definitely want to do a talk show because it would be different,\u201d she gushed, adding that \u201cit would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance.\u201d
\nThough Abdul will no longer be seated next to \u201cIdol\u201d judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi, she says she will still tune in to watch the reality competition program.
\n\u201cI had some really unforgettable moments that hit plateaus for me and I\u2019m very blessed to have been a part of what made television history,\u201d she said.
