The political parties also demanded immediate resignation of union home minister, P Chidambaram and further pressed for summoning of a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the \u201ccritical\u2019 situation of the state owing to the complete blockade of NH-39 and NH-53.
Apart from the ruling Congress and CPI, leaders of the seven political parties in Manipur including MPP, NCP, CPI (M), RSP, Forward Block, MSCP and JD (S) held a meeting Wednesday at the MPP office in Imphal under the chairmanship of opposition leader and former chief minister, Radhabinod Koijam, the president of NCP, Manipur Pradesh.
Koijam said the meeting discussed the \u201cunconstitutional roles of Nagaland government\u201d and noted that the present Nagaland government has often been acting as a \u201cfrontal outfit\u201d of NSCN (I-M) and also has been acting extra-constitutionally by interfering in the internal affairs of another state.
\u201cWe strongly condemn the extra-constitutional activities of the present Nagaland government and warn it to desist from such activities forthwith,\u201d he said.
The meeting also discussed the backgrounds behind the root cause of the prevailing critical situation in the state and unanimously decided to demand resignation of Chidambaram. It also demanded summoning special session of the state Assembly session to discuss the situation where lifelines of the people of the state have been cut-off totally.
Coming out from the meeting MPP MLA, O. Joy said the public of Manipur has taken strong exception to the equivocal role of the government of India, particularly of the home ministry. \u201cIt appears that it (centre) is out to appease NSCN (I-M) general secretary, Th Muivah against the interest of Manipur and is purposely turning its \u2018Nelson\u2019 eye to what is happening in the state,\u201d he said.
\u201cIt appears to the government of India that Manipur is dispensable if it serves its purpose,\u201d Joy said adding that the present situation was a creation of the government of India, particularly the home minister, P Chidambaram, who gave permission to Muivah to visit Manipur without the consent of the state government.
He accused the Central government of building up sorts of pressure on the Manipur chief minister, O Ibobi Singh, who, however, stood his firm ground. \u201cThe Cabinet decision to prevent Muivah from entering the state is supported by all political parties and civil societies and students\u2019 organisations of Manipur,\u201d Joy claimed.
He said the political parties strongly condemned the central government, particularly the home minister for granting permission without the consent of the state government.
\u201cThe meeting reiterated the decision taken by a joint meeting of the five political parties on May 5 last that Muivah should not be allowed to enter the territory of Manipur as he is a person who has persistently been campaigning to disintegrate Manipur to form his Nagalim and further as a person responsible for the commission of many heinous crimes to further his expansionist policy and reaffirm it,\u201d he said.
Former chief minister, Koijam said \u201cHe (Chidambaram) should immediately resign.\u201d
The blockade of national highways 39 and 53 was called by ANSAM and some other Naga organisations against the holding of election of Autonomous District Council of Manipur.
The problem was compounded by the announcement of Muivah\u2019s plan to visit his native village, Somdal in Ukhrul, and also to visit some other places in Ukhrul, Senapati districts and to address public rallies.
Joy said any crime committed on the highways has to be dealt with by the Centre. \u201cTo airlift some urgently needed items is a stop-gap arrangement,\u201d he said.
He said the Centre should immediately take up steps to ensure safe passage of freight trucks arriving Imphal and urging the Centre to develop the NH-53 on war footing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
