However she said “this time we are not going to give up but will fight to the end.” She asserted that Naga women were neither “saleable nor purchasable” nor even “second class citizens”.
The NWH also sounded a note of stern warning against any one seeking to bail out the accused persons saying it will “hunt” those responsible for seeking bail.
Hukheli disclosed that a team had gone to Old Showuba village along with Western Sumi Totimi Hoho, to meet with the victim. However, the victim’s parents did not grant the audience on the plea that their daughter was in Dimapur. Sensing something amiss, a member of the NWH said “we were so much disappointed” but added “we will not agree with any compromise”.
Maintaining that such crimes were a disease that needed to be cured, the NWH made a fervent appeal for support from the men folk.
Meanwhile, women police has also said the law will take its own course of action. Police also disclosed that the GB-cum-chairman of Old Showuba village asked them to release the accused persons on the plea that the contending parties have agreed to settle the case as per customary law.
Police however said the plea of the GB could not be entertained since the case was under investigation based on the complaint that was lodged with Police. The GB of Old Showuba was also asked not to disturb the police in the process.
On the gravity of the charges, Police said it could amount to murder, taking into account the state of the unborn child. “Victims are being pressurized to compromise”, police confirmed .
Meanwhile, police were also trying to ascertain if the accused had committed other similar crimes.
