\n \u201cCeasefire agreement is a potentially important document in the political history of the state, so this has to be defended at any cost\u201d, Imchen said in his address at the 40th general session of the Nagaland Police Service Association (NPSA) held at Police Conference Hall Chumukedima.
\nMaintaining that the Government of India should not be allowed to question the integrity of the factions for not honestly following the cease-fire agreement, he asked the police to protect the cease-fire agreement.
\nThe minister also said it was the responsibility of the police force to provide peace and security to the people.
\nTaking strict note of reports of \u201cHavildars and Constables\u201d mixing with underground cadres, Imchen asked SPs and Commandants to ensure that their jawans do not execute the duties of the factions. \u201cNo, no, no, let us stop this\u201d the minister said. Imchen also assured to look into welfare of the police personnel.
\nState DGP, I. Changkija in his address said orders sent from PHQ were not given due attention or acted upon by the unit commanders, and warned that such actions would no longer be taken lightly.
\nThe DGP on the other hand assured to look into any proposal relating to posting of various senior officers.
\nNPSA president Vika Sumi, Commandant 12 IR Chumukedima, who chaired the programme, in his presidential address urged the police to act as a friend without compromising the rule of law. He called upon fellow officers to convince the society that their role was not that of the aggressor but a constructive benevolent agency of the state for the law abiding citizens.
