Speaking at a state level workshop on \u2018Early Cancer Detection\u2019 for medical officers at the conference hall of directorate of health and family welfare, Kohima, he said \u201cYou are the only healer of that particular area (Cancer) and your absence could result in tears.\u201d Further, he said, \u201cYou are not miracle workers but certainly you have the knowledge to make a difference wherever possible,\u201d and asked them to reach out to the suffering people.
Terming the workshop as a historic beginning for early detection of cancer, John called upon the health professionals to educate the people stating that the disease burden was mostly life-style related in Nagaland.
Quoting the adage \u201cprevention is better than cure,\u201d he said educating the people in such diseases rested on them. Earlier, the commissioner and secretary H&FW released a survey report of Cancer prevalence in Nagaland.
Programme officer, Dr. Hotohku Chishi gave a power point presentation on thematic and cancer prevalence survey and highlighted on cancers statistics in India, cancer profile in Nagaland, cancer prevalence in Nagaland, primary intervention etc. Principal Director, H&FW, Dr. V. Sekhose chaired the inaugural session while director family welfare, Dr. Imtimeren Jamir proposed the vote of thanks.
According to DIPR, in the afternoon session, agendas including Obs and gynaecological detection, detection of oral cancers, surgical detection of cancer, early cancer detection of head and neck were deliberated.
