{"id":6358,"date":"2008-09-12T00:49:10","date_gmt":"2008-09-12T00:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/09\/12\/panel-on-33-women-quota\/"},"modified":"2008-09-12T00:49:10","modified_gmt":"2008-09-12T00:49:10","slug":"panel-on-33-women-quota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/09\/12\/panel-on-33-women-quota\/","title":{"rendered":"Panel on 33% women quota"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/>State Cabinet has decided to send a delegation led by Urban Development minister Dr. Shurhozelie to Mokokchung to talk to leaders of four villages of Mokokchung and Ward leaders with regard to 33% reservation of seats for women in the forth coming Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) election.<br \/>\nReplying to Congress MLA Apok Jamir who raised the issue during zero hour, the chief minister said the delegation would try to hammer out a solution with the contending parties.<br \/>\nHowever, it the issue was not resolved, Rio said \u201cthan we have to go by the Parliament Act.\u201d<br \/>\nTo another starred question raised by Apok Jamir, Urban Development minister Dr. Shurhozelie in his written reply said the State government had received a memorandum from the four villages &#8211; Ungma, Mokokchung, Kensa and Chuchuyimlang &#8211; with regard to reservation of seat for women in the forth coming MMC election.<br \/>\nThe minister said that as per Article 243 T of the Constitution of India as well as the Nagaland Municipal (First Amendment) Act, 2006, election to the MMC would be held incorporating 33% reservation of seat for women.<br \/>\nThe State government had conveyed to DC Mokokchung to explain the government\u2019s position to the people of Mokokchung, Shurhozelie said and added that reservation for women was not an infringement of Article 371 A of Indian constitution.<br \/>\nCongress K L Chishi also raised the issue of 33% reservation for women in the Municipal Councils and said the Women\u2019s Reservation Bill was yet to be passed by Parliament but the Nagaland government was making haste to introduce the Bill in the state.<br \/>\nHe reminded that the state was well protected with Constitutional provision under Rule 371 (A), through which no rule introduced by the Centre can be applicable to the state unless it was adopted by a resolution in the Assembly.<br \/>\nIn reply, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said his government was all for protecting the weaker sex.
