Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday sought women\u2019s help in patenting the unique weaving designs and handicrafts motifs of various Naga tribes and preserving their cuisines in the form of recipe books.\nDeclaring open a cultural-cum-ethnic fashion show organised by Eastern Nagaland Women\u2019s Organisation (ENWO) here at Indira Gandhi stadium, Rio asked the women\u2019s groups to select various indigenous designs and motifs and refer them to the state government for patenting.
\n\u201cAfter selecting the designs through a consensus, the organisations could engage weaving societies for commercial production of various products with the selected designs,\u201d he said.
\nThe Chief Minister felt the need to preserve styles in tribal handicrafts has risen in the wake of the threat from modern influences to their authenticity.
\n\u201cAlthough there has been much enthusiasm towards Naga ethnic foods by visitors in recent years, we did not have authentic recipes or names of particular dishes,\u201d the CM said.
\nHe suggested women of each tribe should prepare recipe books to solve the problem and preserve the recipes for posterity.
\nHighlighting the state government\u2019s initiative towards women\u2019s empowerment, Rio assured all assistance to women of the \u2018underdeveloped\u2019 eastern Nagaland.
\nThe Chief Minister also donated Rs 5 lakh to ENWO, formed in April this year by women of six Naga tribes from the four border districts of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng.

\nKOHIMA, SEPT 19 (NPN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Friday reiterated his appeal to all Naga to come together to bring about permanent peace in Naga society.
\nStating that Nagaland was a civilized Christian state with more than 70% literacy rate, the chief minister said infighting among Nagas was unbecoming of a civilized society.
\nRio who was the chief guest of the cultural-cum-ethnic fashion show organized by the Eastern Nagaland Women Organization also said Nagas need to respect each other\u2019s freedom. He said Nagas had misunderstood the meaning of freedom and fought among themselves for too long.
\nAnghya of Konyak Longwa village, Alih, who was the guest of honour in her address also dwelt on the Naga national movement and said \u201cfighting is not a means but an end to our birthright endeavour.\u201d The Anghya also spoke on the enormous responsibility of women and vital role they play in moulding the society.
