Governor of Maharashtra SC Jamir has said the world can learn from South Africa what reconciliation was all about.\nHe was interacting with Ms Busi Kuzwayo, Dean of the Consular Corps and Consul General of South Africa in India Friday morning when she called on him.
\nAccording to a press released issued by Sebastian Zumvu, OSD to Maharashtra Governor, Jamir recalled the common destiny shared by India and South Africa and the influence South Africa had on Mahatma Gandhi.
\nHe went on to say that Nelson Mandela was a living legend and the Gandhi of the 21st Century.
\nJamir appreciated the fact that in spite of the severe and painful experience the people of South Africa faced during the period of apartheid, the society was presently reconciled with different communities living in almost perfect harmony.
\n \u201cIt is easy to forgive, but very difficult to forget the wounds and the scars,\u201d Jamir said. \u201cBut as far as possible we should forget the hurt caused to each other and learn to live and let live.\u201d
\nIt may be mentioned that Jamir said more or less the same thing to NSCN (I-M)\u2019s general secretary Th. Muivah when the two met in New Delhi earlier this month.
\n\u201cYou have tried to kill me more than four times but since I was saved all those times by the grace of God, I forgive you,\u201d he had told Muivah.
\n\u201cI hold no grudges against you or anyone involved in the last ambush near Changki on November 24, 2007 when you yourself ordered self-styled \u201cLt Col\u201d Hopeson to assassinate me,\u201d Jamir said.
\nEarlier, in February 2002, Jamir had declared in a public gathering at Pughoboto in Zunheboto district of Nagaland that he has forgiven those who had tried to assassinate him in 1999 near Piphema. He then went on to withdraw the cases filed against the NSCN leaders in Delhi High Court.
\nThe Ao Senden had organized the meeting between the Muivah and Jamir over the issue of the Ahza (decree) issued by Muivah last year \u201cbanning\u201d Jamir from entering Nagaland.
