TUENSANG: Forest department Tuensang division on Saturday organized \u2018World environment day\u2019 at Tuensang village. Addressing the gathering as resource person, Santosh Associate Professor of Sao Chang Govt. College Tuensang urged the people to protect the environment and suggested to \u2018live in nature and as nature\u2019. Nukshi Jamir, DFO Tuensang stressed on the importance of \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 and said environment day was a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate change, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, ecosystem management and resource efficiency and called upon the people to preserve trees in order to live a healthy life.
During the world environment day the forest department Tuensang planted 5000 saplings trees include, Thuja compacta, Deldnix Regia and Pinus Kesiya along the road site and avenue plantation sites. Zapunou Sophie EAC Tuensang, N. Kaimang President CKS and N.Y. Choba president TVCU also spoke on the occasion. The world environment day programme was followed by planting of seedlings around the village. (Correspondent)
JALUKIE: \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 was organized by Peren Forest Division, at Jalukie town on the June 4 with L. Jamithung Lotha SDO (civil) Jalukie as chief guest. The chief guest in his address elaborated on this years global theme \u201cForests: Nature at your service\u201d and reminded the participants about the recent change in climate which are noticeable within a short span of time like drying up of rivers and streams and installing fans in hill stations and called upon the community for collective action towards climate change mitigation. He emphasized on the concept of thinking globally; acting locally, and cautioned the local people against felling of trees and encouraged the participants to plant more trees and conserve the dense forests in their neighbourhood which will ultimately help the state to maintain 70% forest cover. Rampaukai, the Range Forest Officer Jalukie highlighted about the historical background of the day and deliberated on the true objective of observing \u2018World Environment Day\u2019. He underscored on \u201cGreening Jalukie\u201d an initiative of the forest department with tree planting activities, which is intended to help facilitate for proper town planning processes in the future. He led the participants in taking a pledge to create environmental awareness, conserve forest resources, plant more trees and become active agents of change.
Other organizations who participated on the occasion include Imtui Mpom Jalukie Town council who urged the public to safeguard the planted seedlings, Shri. Penam ZSUN, Eco-clubs from various schools, Jalukie Students Union, Peoples\u2019 Education Network, Legacy Explorer, Fair Friends, 32 Assam Rifles, Govt. departments and public leaders. The programme culminated by organizing mass planting act in Govt. School area and on all roadsides of Jalukie Town, covering some 6800 metre distance and planting 4235 nos. of seedlings.
PGSU: Post Graduate Students\u2019 Union, Nagaland University Campus Kohima on Saturday observed \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 at Meriema Campus on the theme \u201cGreen for all\u201d. Divisional forest officer, Temhenyabang, exhorted the students on importance of preserving environment and urged student community to spread out the university. President of PGSU (NUCK) Keluhol Tase called upon the students to protect the environment for a healthy living. He read out the day message on behalf of dean and campus in-charge Prof. Imtisungba. Tree saplings were sponsored by DFO.
NSS GHSS Bhandari Unit: NSS GHSS Bhandari Unit observed \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 on June 4 on the theme, \u201cTrees at your service\u201d in collaboration with the Peace Channel members and students from secondary section. A short speech was delivered by the programme officer Rosca T. Jimo followed by procession from the school to the NSS adopted village- Bhandari village. Placards with various environmental slogans were displayed and pasted on the walls during the procession. Volunteers also undertook plantation drive and planted around 200 trees at its adopted village to mark the day.
PBMS: Pimla Baptist Mission School, on Saturday ahead of \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 planted around 350 saplings of different plants with support of students and youth department, Pimla Baptist Church. The programme started with Lughozhe K Swu, GB inaugurating the function by planting a sapling.
The plantation was carried out from Pimla Bazaar to the village church at a stretch of around 3 km, and also around Children\u2019s Park. While appreciating the generous help rendered by the in-charge and his staff, department of forest, Zoological Park Ranghaphar and the youth department, Pimla Baptist Church, the school headmaster, Abdus Salam said he looked forward to the same kind of cooperation in future.
MSMS: Mount Saramati Montessori School (MSMS) observed \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 on June 4 under the theme \u201cNurture the nature for our future\u201d. Placards demonstration that drew the attention of the present day threats to environment and the steps to be taken to prevent environment degradation was the highlight of the day. Chuba Yanger, chairman and education facilitator of the school urged the students to work for a clean and green world. A drawing competition was also under the theme \u201cdevelopment doesn\u2019t mean the destruction of natural environment\u201d. Meanwhile, beautification of the campus was carried out by planting trees and the students pledged to abstain from all activities that harm the natural environment.
Bethesda Higher Secondary School: To increase environmental consciousness, and need of bringing about proper management of environment, Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Walfrod colony Dimapur observed \u2018World Environment Day\u2019 on Saturday. The school organized various relevant activities like cleanliness drive, panting competition on the theme \u201cForest: Nature at your service\u201d and quiz competition.Initiating the quiz competition, the principal of the school addressed the senior students and the competitors on the significance of the day.
