A marathon meeting of the stat cabinet lasting several hours was held at the residence office of the chief minister Thursday evening to deliberate on pertinent issues. According to sources, the state cabinet has decided not to permit ONGC activities in the state at the present juncture till approval of modalities for oil and natural gas exploration and production was approved by the state cabinet sub-committee. The state cabinet sub-committee on exploration and mining of petroleum and natural gas was constituted earlier to study the matter and frame out the modalities. The sub-committee is expected to submit its report to the state government recommending fresh modalities for production of oil in the state. On contentious issue of job reservation under backward tribes, the cabinet has stuck to 25% reservation for Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng and the remaining 11% for Chakhesang, Pochury, Zelaing and part of Sumis at Kiphire and Tuensang. The cabinet has also approved the representation of Tribal hohos in the DPDB. In the light of the Right To Education Act, the cabinet also approved the re-structuring of school education department and posting of adequate number of teachers.
