The seminar on MGNREGA was organized by the directorate of field publicity, ministry of information and broadcasting. Additional director general of field publicity, A. Lassa said MGNREGA was a people\u2019s Act that surpassed all other schemes. She stated that proper implementation and execution of the Act could change the entire phase of Nagaland. While maintaining that mismanagement of the Act resulted in some households being exploited, Lassa called for cooperation of implementing agencies, VDBs and field functionaries.
She expressed optimism that proper execution would alleviate poverty in Nagaland.
Short speeches were delivered by Akang Ao, NPF spokesperson; R. Paphino, chairman Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee Vigilance cell; Kezhokhoto Savi, president Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organization; T.L. Semdok, vice president NPF; Vaprumu Demo, general secretary NPCC. The speakers remarked and reiterated on transparency and accountability of the Act as the basis for successful implementation.
Pointing out some mismanagement of the Act in Nagaland such as corruption in implementation, lack of awareness and publicity, non-conduct of audit as per required, breakdown of grievances redressal at different levels etc., the speakers called for introspection of shortfalls and the need to move forward with positivism and cooperation. It may be mentioned that MGNREGA is a flagship project of UPA government which was launched in 2006 covering the entire country.
It was enacted as a law by the parliament in 2005. The objective of MGNREGA is to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing 100 days guaranteed wage employment in one financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
