Chiten Jamir was laid to rest Tuesday at Naga Cemetery, Dimapur. The 85-year old Naga political pioneer and former deputy chief minister passed away on Sunday evening at Kolkata after a brief illness. <br \/>A host of political leaders, government officials and well wishers attended the funeral service of the departed leader which was held at DDSC stadium on Tuesday afternoon. <br \/>A condolence message from the chief minister Neiphiu Rio was read out by home minister Imkong L Imchen. In the message, Rio described late Chiten as a highly respected Naga leader who was instrumental in shaping the future destiny of Nagaland state. <br \/>Describing late Chiten as a straight forward person who was impartial and fearless during his long innings in the political field, Rio lamented that Nagas have lost a true leader who was a true son of the soil having deep concern for the Naga people.  <br \/>The home minister Imkong L.Imchen also expressed personal condolences to the family and described late Chiten as his mentor and a beloved leader who always guided him. He also said that late Chiten was a man of principle and commitment and having visionary ideals for the Naga people.<br \/>Recalling past political events, Imchen said late Chiten had refused to topple the then Hokishe led government even though he was offered the post of CM. He also mentioned a quote from late Chiten\u2019s letter to Indira Gandhi, which read- \u2018national in outlook, regional in content\u2019- for merger of the erstwhile NNO with the Indian National Congress, when Indira as prime minister was reluctant on the merger. \u201cRC Chiten will remain a legend\u201d stated Imchen. <br \/>NPCC president S I Jamir, who read out the speech on behalf of former Goa CM and member CWC in-charge Nagaland Luizinho Faleiro, described late Chiten as a pioneer in many fields including the Congress party in Nagaland. S.I. Jamir also expressed his own condolences and said that late Chiten was a revered leader who not only accomplished his mission but was also successful in achieving his goals peacefully. He also said that the veteran Congressman was a top consultant for the party wand its greatest adviser.<br \/>Dr Jamir opined that late RC Chiten could also be described as the father of INC in Nagaland, and in his passing away; the Congress party has lost an irreplaceable person whose legacy will live on, a condolence message that was read out on behalf of Dr SC Jamir by Rev. Wati, pastor Lungmen fellowship (DABA). Dr Jamir also said that late Chiten was a God fearing man who was also a true patriotic leader worthy of emulation.  <br \/>In the condolence message of the state Governor, read out by Rev Wati Jamir, described late Chiten as a prominent leader who always worked for the Naga people. The Governor also said the Naga people have lost a tall leader amongst them.<br \/>Lok Sabha MP CM Chang who message was also read out by the Rev Wati, said that the legacy left behind by Chiten will always be cherished and the vacuum left behind will always difficult to fill.    <br \/>Speaking on behalf of his friends circle, former minister Z Obed said that late Chiten was a God fearing man who had also worked closely with Dr Imkongliba as general secretary of NPC and helped in ushering the 16 point agreement with the government of India.  <br \/>Late RC Chiten\u2019s son Matsung described his late father as a hardworking and God fearing man who always found time for his family. He also expressed gratitude to the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, home minister Imkong L. Imchen and various other individuals and organizations for extending support during their hour of grief. <br \/>Other speakers who spoke at the funeral included his elder brother, brothers-in-law, representatives from Ao Union Dimapur, Ao Students Union (AKM), Chuchuyimlang Dimapur Area Senso Telongjem, Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Dimapur, Akhoya Village council and Akhoya Union. While condolences messages from Dr S C Jamir, I Imkong, Yajen Aier and MLA &#038; Chairman NIDC &#038;NHL Nuklutoshi was read out by Rev Wati. <br \/>Condolence messages from Mongsenyimti village council, Changtongya Senso Union, Padmashree Chubala, DCC Mokokchung, N Talitemjen Jamir and NPYC was also handed over to the family members by the reverend. <br \/>Late R C Chiten Jamir from Akhoya village was born on February 28, 1926, married to late Chubasenla from Chuchuyimlang village, the couple was blessed with two daughters and three sons and five grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran politician and one of the architects of Nagaland state, R.C.
