Jamir on Thursday said that modernization was a challenge which was eroding spirituality from the society. <br \/>He said the over flowing influence of modernization limited quality spiritual time in the family and community, thus gradually drying up their spirituality. <br \/>Addressing a public reception programme of the Student Christian Movement of India (SCMI) held at Baptist Mission Church, Dr. S.C. Jamir, who is also a senior member of SCMI, called upon the student community to imbibe the spirit of Jesus Christ and rejuvenate a new society based on Christian love, Christian honesty and Christian values. <br \/>Focusing on the current Naga scenario, Dr. Jamir said that \u201cgun-culture\u201d was hanging over every act and that people were suppressed and oppressed against speaking the truth. \u201cThere is terrible famine of truth in the state\u201d, he said. <br \/>He urged the student community from Nagaland to be Christ-like and gain courage through Jesus Christ so as to speak the truth. He added \u201conly the truth can liberate us and make our society free.\u201d <br \/>Dr. S. C. Jamir said that student Christian community faces crucial and complex challenges. He said the political scenario was marred by corruption though in the socio-economic scenario, India was soon  becoming a global power. He said these were some of the issues which students need to ponder over.  He urged them to contribute in building a new Christian society. <br \/>Chairperson of SCMI, Bishop Geevarghese Mor Coorilos, said that the theme of the general conference \u201cblessed are those in the margins for they will inherit the earth: challenges for the students\u2019 communities\u201d was a gospel challenge to see and encounter God in the margins of society where the poor and oppressed live. He said it was also a challenge to rededicate oneself to be in solidarity with the marginalized. <br \/>Thursday\u2019s public reception was a part of the 25th general conference of SCMI held in Kohima. Student members from different parts of India participated in the programme.  <br \/>Earlier, Dr. A.J. Anandan, treasurer of SCMI delivered greetings from the SCMI, while citation of Augustine Ralla Ram was said by Inbaraj Jeyakumar, study secretary SCMI and Ralla Ram Memorial lecture by Dr. Solomon Ranjan, consultant WCC.
