Barack Obama is happy to hob-nob with Hollywood elite such as Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio.\nBut he apparently draws the line with gossip-page fodder such as Lindsay Lohan, according to the Chicago-Sun Times.
\nColumnist Bill Zwecker wrote Wednesday that a source in Obama’s campaign told him that Lohan, whose career took a tumble – then a stumble – last year after a DUI arrest and numerous unflattering paparazzi pictures, was looking to help the Democratic nominee for President’s campaign. She sought to carry his message to younger voters, a prime faction of the country’s electorate.
\nHowever, Obama’s campaign told her – politely, we’re sure – that her public image is not something they would like associated with the Chicago senator.
\nAccording to the report, Lohan “is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be positive for us.”
\nLohan has recently been vocal about her dislike of Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee. She wrote a lengthy diatribe on her MySpace page blasting the Alaskan governor over gay rights. “I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah Palin,” the 22-year-old actress wrote.
\n“Is our country so divided that the Republicans best hope is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe?” she asked, sourcing an Associated Press article which said Palin’s church was promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals. The Chicago-Sun Times story led Lohan’s father, Michael, to offer up a response via TMZ: “Everyone is entitled to an opinion and so is Obama and his staff. Then again, you know what they say about opinions.”
\nAnd as if this campaign hasn’t already gotten down and dirty, the McCain campaign responded through the gossip website. “They turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and Tony Rezko?”
\nThis, of course, got a response from the Obama campaign. “Glad to see they’re focused on the important issues,” a spokesman told TMZ.
