{"id":7239,"date":"2008-09-27T01:25:36","date_gmt":"2008-09-27T01:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/09\/27\/ne-artists-paint-permanence-in-unrest\/"},"modified":"2008-09-27T01:25:36","modified_gmt":"2008-09-27T01:25:36","slug":"ne-artists-paint-permanence-in-unrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/09\/27\/ne-artists-paint-permanence-in-unrest\/","title":{"rendered":"NE artists paint permanence in unrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/>Thirty three paintings in acrylic and oil by seventeen artists drawn from the eight Northeastern states depicted the beauty and permanence of nature, art, culture and tradition, a stark contrast to the region ridden with insurgency, turmoil and unrest.<br \/>\nThe artists poured out their emotions, visions and motifs and brought to life the blank canvases laid before them during the 5-day (Sept 22-26) North-East Painting Workshop held at North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur.<br \/>\nTlang Rokhuma, a national awardee from Mizoram in his acrylic on canvas titled \u201cMy duty\u201d depicts a Mizo woman engaged in sifting paddy, her head bent in submission to duty. Though dressed in traditional finery, she has to complete her household chores before taking part in any festivity.<br \/>\nBishambhor Sharma\u2019s \u201cLoktak Lake\u201d shows the dependence of man on nature despite the lake being traversed and violated by militants.<br \/>\nUpcoming artist from Nagaland Temjen Aier tries to bring out the essence of the \u201cequal status\u201d enjoyed by women in Naga society by juxtaposing the shawls worn by Ao Naga male and female in his canvas \u201cEquality.\u201d<br \/>\nAnother Naga artist Akup Buchem in his canvas \u201cPeace of mind\u201d captures a moment of perfect harmony and bliss a Naga couple enjoys in the old traditional setting.<br \/>\nDC Dimapur Maongwati Aier who graced the valedictory function of the workshop as the chief guest Thursday, praised the Northeast artists and said they had succeeded in expressing their visions in their canvases, which were also windows to the northeast.<br \/>\nUrging the northeast artists to be more innovative in their colours, themes and thoughts, the DC also called upon them to convey to the world and rest of India one important message in their paintings \u2013 the religious tolerance in the Northeast.<br \/>\nPointing to a painting titled \u201cWhisper\u201d by Vijay Mani Thulung from Sikkim, Maongwati said the work reflected the \u201ctranquil\u201d state of Sikkim as compared to other northeast states rocked by unrest.<br \/>\nDirector NEZCC, V.
