Expressing concern over the situation in Kiphire district over dispute between Sangtams and Yinchungr\u00fcs, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee(NPCC) attacked the DAN government for \u201cfuelling the tribal discord\u201d.
NPCC media cell chairman Dr. Hoshi pointed out that the two tribes were allegedly \u201cforced to engage in tribal feud much against their wishes\u201d and held the proposed road show at Pungro town, to coincide with the Medemneo festival of the Yimchungr\u00fcs as being the \u201cignition point\u201d. \u201cNo doubt, the DAN Govt. had called off the proposed road-show but it had sown the spirit of distrust and suspicion between the two tribes,\u201d he said.
He blamed the DAN government for failing to take \u201ctimely action to restore confidence building measures\u201d despite knowing the mounting tension between the two tribes. Hoshi opined that had the DAN government taken adequate and timely measures, such an ugly situation could have been avoided.
While condemning the \u201cmishandling\u201d of the issue, the NPCC appealed to both the Sangtams and Yimchungr\u00fcs to maintain peace and uphold the spirit of harmonious co-existence in the larger interest of all people living in those two towns. The NPCC also appealed to all responsible bodies, representing two tribes, to desist from all activities that could further escalate the situation.
Further, the NPCC also urged leaders of both the contending parties to sit across the table and sort out their differences through mutual trust and patience.
