Claiming that while he \u201cstrongly detest\u201d washing linen in public, Imkong, in a statement, accused S.I. Jamir and some senior leaders of confining many members of the PCC in three camps since September 13 last.
Reacting to S.I Jamir\u2019s claim of enjoying the support of a total 52 out of the total of 81 making the electoral college for the post of NPCC president, I. Imkong said the fact of the matter was \u201cwhatever number of members he has been taking around till date is for everybody to judge for themselves as to whether there was inner democracy in the party as claimed by him.\u201d
Imkong also alleged that a \u201clarge number\u201d of PCC members, compelled to support S.I. Jamir, have been taken to Delhi, Shillong and Guwahati. He argued that if they had not been compelled and free to exercise their vote, then Sungit should release them so they can move freely with family and party workers. He further termed Sungit\u2019s claim of receiving voluntarily support from five members in \u201clegal papers\u201d as nothing but an eyewash.
Stating that S.I. Jamir has exposed \u201cprevailing mistrust and coercion\u201d in his camp, Imkong posed that if the support of the five members were \u201cvoluntary\u201d, there would be no need to bind their \u201cso-called voluntary support into a binding legal agreement.\u201d
He also asked whether \u201clegal papers\u201d were to be used in the event those five members decide not support him. Responding to Sungit\u2019s claim that he (Imkong) ceased to be NPCC president the day his nomination papers were accepted by the PRO on September 14, Imkong said he continued functioning as president of NPCC as per the Constitution of the Congress Party. Imkong went on to state, that Sungit seemed to be in a hurry to become the party president \u201cby hook or by crook\u201d for reasons best known to him (Sungit). He urged Sungit to respect the democratic ethos of free and fair elections instead of holding the sacred principles of party cohesion to ransom.
Imkong further underscored that as a \u201cresponsible leader\u201d of the Congress party, he continued to remain undeterred in his steadfast decision to face the election and honour the decision of the members.
Imkong over rules KDCC
Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) and the incumbent NPCC president I.Imkong( a candidate for the post of NPCC president) appear to be at loggerheads over the disciplinary action on four party members of the KDCC involved in the stone throwing and damage of ballot boxes I on September 17 during the polling.
KDCC at its meeting Thursday reaffirmed the disciplinary action (suspension of membership) taken against the four- Aba, Ruokuoneisa, Neisakuolie and Dr. Sadikuolie- for \u201csenseless disruption of the polling process\u201d and bringing disgrace to the party at large . KDCC president Prasielie Pienyii and general secretary Viseyienuo Keretsu said the names of the four have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities for \u201cexemplary disciplinary action under the constitution of the INC\u201d.
The four are reported to be supporters of incumbent NPCC president I.Imkong from the 10 Northern Angami and 9 Kohima Town constituencies which come under the organizational jurisdiction of the KDCC. On the other hand, I.Imkong through an order made public Thursday, overruled the suspension of the four by the KDCC citing Art.XIV(C) of the INC constitution. Imkong over ruled the KDCC order after verifying that the AICC general secretary in-charge Nagaland had not issued any directive to suspend any member under the KDCC.
Meanwhile, the KDCC at its Thursday meeting, vowed that it will not allow any disruption on October 6 when rescheduled elections get underway and ensure free and fair polling at any cost. The KDCC has issued a strong warning against any disruption by any person(s).Further the KDCC has also appealed to the electorate of the PCC to participate in the October 6 election \u201cto salvage the image of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
