A total of seventy eight art works (forty four professional and thirty four student works) by thirty two artists are on display at the 23rd Nagaland State Art Exhibition and Craftsmen Workshop 2008, which got underway at the State Academy Hall, Kohima, Tuesday.\nCommissioner and Secretary, Temjen Toy, who inaugurated the 13-day event in his address called upon Naga youths to come out from their cocoons and become more career-oriented, rather than job-oriented.
\nStating that Naga youths were a confused lot, Toy exhorted the youths to apply their talents as their career rather then seek for mere government jobs.
\nThe chief guest also said the rich Naga culture should be manifested through art since art and craft reflect culture and society.
\nHe also said the ongoing exhibition was a good platform to encourage people in showcasing their talents.
\nThe works of the thirty two artists are reflections of tradition, popular culture, contemporary art, abstract, landscape and flora and fauna.
\nCoinciding with the exhibition, a craftsmen workshop is also being organized at the Heritage Village, Kisama.
\nOut of the thirty artists, ten of them were acknowledged as winners and awarded cash prizes and certificates. The winners include Panger Onen Aier (Painting), Neivotuo Keyho (Sculpture) and Menuolhoutuo (Graphic) in the Professionals Category; Shesal\u00fc Vadeo (Painting) and Avung Jungi (Drawing) in the Students Category; and in the consolation are Merimv\u00fc Duolo (Painting), Tato V. Swu (Painting), Asanuo Sapuh( Drawing), Kozota Shwo (Crafts) and Alem Pongen (Crafts).
\nThe art exhibition and craftsmen workshop is organized by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with the Nagaland Art Society Kohima.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
