He was the architect of the reservation policy for the \u2018Other Backward Castes\u2019 (OBC)&#8230; in his death, the country has lost a politician, a nationalist and a true leader\u201d Sankaranarayanan said in a condolence message.<br \/>\nIn a separate condolence message, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said \u201cHis (VP Singh) integrity was in full display and could never be questioned. In his death, the country has lost a true leader, the champion of the weaker sections of the society and a distinguished statesman,\u201d Rio said.<\/p>\n<p> Govt declares 7-day State mourning<\/p>\n<p>The State government has announced a state mourning for seven days with effect from Nov 27 to Dec 3, on account of the death of former Prime Minister V.P. Singh. State chief secretary Lalhuma in a notification stated that during the 7-day mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half mast.
