\n With seismologists predicting an earthquake would strike north-east India bordering China between April 14 and 16, the Dimapur district disaster management authority (DDMA) is leaving no stone unturned.
\nDeputy commissioner and chairman DDMA, Maongwati Aier highlighting the various pre-emptive measures in such occurrences stated the district was fully prepared for such times of emergency, adding that as bestowed by the government to the district, the disaster management authority would use all resources during emergency for the well being of the public.
\nHe said this in a meeting held at the conference hall of deputy commissioner Dimapur on April 13 for preventive and preparedness measures.
\nThe chairman also appealed the departments such as fire services, civil defence, district executives\u2019 force, CMO, EE (Power, PHE & Housing) and central paramilitary forces to keep their personnel on guard.
\nDuring the meeting, the authority also chalked out contingency plans and decided to set up emergency control room at DC\u2019s office, Relief Camp at DMC office, recovery camp at DDSC stadium and all major hospitals in the district to be ready for any eventuality.
\nThe district authority identified some of the landmark areas and places in the district as disaster prone areas which need special attention such as Clock Tower, Fly over, LPG Plant, Oil Depot, banking and school institutions, Railway Station and Airport.
\nThe district authority also appealed to all the school institutions to remain alert and to conduct mock drills from April 14 to 16.
\nIt further informed the public to store enough food, water and other items to meet emergency situations and to all believers in the state to pray to God to avert such an incident.
\nKOHIMA: A mock drill to meet the eventualities in case of natural calamities especially earthquakes were successfully conducted in Stella Higher Secondary school at Kohima by the civil defence and home guards along with district mobile SAR Team on Wednesday.
\nThe mock drill was carried out in the school to prepare students and teachers for any eventuality under the earthquake risk reduction programme, and to also create awareness on the type of hazards caused by such natural calamities.
\nBefore the mock drill, deputy controller and district commandant, civil defence, Dally Jamir stressed on the importance of undertaking regular earthquake drills, which would help to familiarize both students and staff to during an earthquake.
\nHe told students, teachers and other staff of the school to follow the instructions carefully about emergency evacuation plan, exits and do\u2019s and don\u2019ts during mock drills. He also urged school authorities to conduct such mock drills periodically, so that teachers and students were not caught unaware in such situation.
\nMeanwhile, the school administration has expressed gratitude to the department of civil defence and home guards, Nagaland in general and deputy controller and district commandant, Dally Jamir and his team for their initiatives and efforts in organizing the mock drill exercise. The district mobile SAR team led was by S.I. Matsung Ao.
\nMON: Emergency me-eting of the district level disaster management committee was held at DC\u2019s conference hall, Mon on April 13 under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Mon Dinesh Kumar IAS.
\nThe chairman highlighted the constitutions of various sub-committees, their duties and responsibilities in times of disasters in the district.
\nThe sub-committees constituted include dissemination team, search and rescue team, first aid team, sanitation team, patrolling & vigilance team, damage management team, counseling team, carcass disposal team, relief team, central management team and coordination and linkage team.
\nHe advised members present to know the roles and responsibilities of the respective team and urged them to respond to the control room when disaster strikes.
\nHe also emphasized the need to sensitize all government employees and NGOs regarding various disasters and added that although disaster cannot be stopped, good coordination of the members and preparedness could minimize loss of lives and property. 
\nStressing on the need of manpower and volunteers in times of disasters, the DC called upon NGOs to arrange volunteers and manpower from NGOs. He urged upon government officers to keep their inventory machineries ready and inform their staff to respond to the disaster when it strikes.
\nHe added that the meeting was being held to take stock of the preparedness and response in case a disaster strikes as predicted and published in the local dailies.
