Tenyimi Peoples\u2019 Organization (TPO) has made a fresh claim saying 20,202 hectares of land for the present \u2018Intanki National Park\u2019 was freely donated by old Beisumpui village. TPO president Z.M. Sekhose and general secretary Benjamin Lorin in a joint statement asserted that \u201cthis fact was acknowledged by the recipients of the said land i.e. British colonial government by observing all the terms and conditions imposed by the village in the early 1920s when J.H. Hutton was the then deputy commissioner of Naga Hills District of Assam.\u201d The TPO maintained that the acknowledgement was clearly reaffirmed today by successive recipients of the said land i.e. government of Nagaland in its affidavit in opposition in the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench, under WP (C) No. 217 (K) of 2009, by declaring \u201cThe old Beisumpui village were the original owners of the land covering the present Intanki National Park till it was donated to the Governor in Council in the year 1923 for declaration as a \u2018Reserved Forest\u201d. \u201cThus when the donor and the donee have acknowledged the donation of the land, the matter ends then and there itself,\u201d the TPO stated, adding old Beisumpui village was a member of TPO. Urging not to create confusion with \u201cself-serving intentions\u201d by fraudulently misinterpreting facts established in official records, the TPO leaders said mischievous repeated attempt to meddle with \u201cindisputable historical and legal accounts of the donor and the donee by the self styled Inavi \/Hevuto village, a third party, was highly questionable, condemnable and objectionable to all the right thinking persons. Stating that it did not have any hand with regard to \u201cexchange of land\u201d between Beisumpuikam and Nagaland government, the TPO, however, clarified that the former made the proposal and the later accepted it and not vice versa. It said the matter was privy to the duly government recognized Beisumpuikam village on one hand and state government of Nagaland on the other. The TPO also cautioned any villager from Beisumpuikam, who crosses an inch of land beyond the defined area exchanged, would be treated as criminal intruders without any prejudice and partialities. \u201cThe TPO is against all encroachers without any exceptions and discrimination whatsoever,\u201d the signatories said. Asserting to come back to the \u201ccrux of the matter on Intanki National Park,\u201d the TPO said its concern was simply that while Inavi \/Hevuto village was persistently claiming that the learned T.C.K. Lotha, the then home commissioner, allowed Inavi and his men to establish Inavi village in \u2018Hazadisa\u2019, today they were trying to establish their villages deep inside the Intanki national park, approximately 15 km away from \u2018Hazadisa\u2019. \u201cThis is simply an act of sheer criminal intrusion and it encourages many others to follow their example which is not good for them or for the rest of the Nagas,\u201d the TPO remarked, and pointed out that had Inavi established his village at \u2018Hazadisa\u2019, as permitted by the government, they would have no objection. \u201cIronically, Inavi\/Hevuto Village is not trying to do so as was permitted and we have been compelled to raise the issue of intrusion for the benefit of all Nagas, meaning the future generations having a preserved eco-system as their common heritage and for their survival,\u201d the TPO maintained. Further, the TPO said its stand was to promote human rights, protect victims of gross violation of human rights, educate and advise Naga communities about their birth rights, their legal rights and duties and encourage and help the communities to value and care \u201cfor the common good above personal benefits sought to be achieved at any cost disregarding the dire consequences for our fragile society.\u201d \u201cTPO\u2019s stand on Intanki National Park should be thus understood and not misinterpreted by anyone for their own purposes,\u201d Sekhose and Lorin said. Stating that when forests are gone, water and wildlife will soon follow, the signatories said Intanki National Park was not for human beings to degrade with \u201cthoughtless selfishness and impunity\u201d but for security and general welfare of the coming generations. \u201cThis is the reason why TPO is appealing to all, to come forward and co-operate to safeguard its wildlife and the priceless assets of pristine Nature preserved for millions of years within its wonderful eco-system.\u201d They said. Hence, TPO requested all Tribal hohos to recall their fellow community members from Intanki national park and urged all not to underestimate the dangerous long-term consequences and to think and act for the larger interest of people and of mankind instead of being driven by \u201cshort-term temptations to which all of us are vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n
