They wondered how Jamir could bring Nagas together when he was against reconciliation and the peace process. They also alleged that during last night’s incident, Jamir’s personal security was used. They appealed to voters of Aonglenden to “join the regional party NPF which is a party for the people”. They claimed people of Nagaland were enjoying peace and development under the DAN government under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio.
They predicted that the after the by-election, Congress would be driven out of Aonglenden and Jamir’s defeat would pave way for strengthening of the NPF.
They also alleged that Jamir was using money to lure voters but that the people have out rightly rejected it and saying “money has its magic” in the election.
They maintained that Jamir was not the only capable leader among the Aos, as there were many upcoming youngsters equally capable if given the chance. They said Jamir was a great leader but “his days are gone”. They said, today there was a huge generation gap leading to clash of ideas and that he (Jamir) was too old to rule over the mass.
On the Congress allegation that a government servant was served with show cause notice, the NPF members claimed the official had personally campaigned for Jamir. On threat perception to Jamir’s life, the NPF alleged it was “ his own creation” and pointed out that there was no record on Jamir’s life, which they said, was confirmed by the DGP himself.
PRE-POLL VIOLENCE
Pre-poll violence was reported in Ungma village between NPF and Congress workers in the run up to the 26th Aonglenden A/C by-election.
The house of an NPF worker was damaged, allegedly by Congress youths at Ungma village. NPF sources said the incident took place at around 10.30 pm Friday night by Congress workers who went to the house of Imtionen, vice president NPF Mokokchung Division and lifetime member, at B Khel (Mangko Terong Mepu) Ungma. However, they said no one was injured and that Imtionen was not at home. They said some household items and doors were broken/damaged. Imtionen, speaking to media persons said the it carried out by people “having animal instincts”. He also claimed that he could have been “killed” if he had been home. .
On the other hand, Congress sources claimed that around midnight Friday, NPF youths pelted stones at the house of one of S.C. Jamir’s brother. They said NPF in Ungma was in a desperate situation to create mayhem and have been attacking Congress workers and houses. Further they alleged that Congress workers were also beaten up and arrested by uniformed personnel.

NPF candidate for the May 7 by election to the 26 Aonglenden A/C , Toshipokba promised to work for the uplift of the youths, particularly of the constituency as it was lacking in many fields.
